Mayweather indicated he was interested in making the contest happen but reiterated that it was to be an exhibition.

"No, it wasn't supposed to be an official fight, no. An exhibition, a small nine-minute exhibition," Mayweather said in Los Angeles.

"Rules? It is going to be a little boxing exhibition. No kicking at all. I will just be moving around with the guy for nine minutes."

From the “Money’s” own mouth.

Yes, but if you put them in a ring and have them fight under boxing rules, it becomes a boxing match.

I agree, but where has it been stated the fight would be under boxing rules?

mixing fighters who were trained in different martial arts.

Yes, but if you put them in a ring and have them fight under boxing rules, it becomes a boxing match.

You could take Superman and Deadpool and put them in a ring, but the category of the fight will still be defined by the rules or lack of.

MMA incorporates pretty much every unarmed striking, grappling and submission martial art.

Boxing is just... boxing.

What Mayweather wants is a boxing match against a kickboxer.

“Mixed” martial arts implies that the fight is conducted under rules that incorporate various martial arts, rather than fighters from different disciplines fighting under the regulations of a single martial art.

That's never what I've gotten as an implication from that term. The term to me has always implied people of different martial arts. Back when the first UFCs were airing in the '90s, they would pair up a sumo guy against a little karate guy, a brazilian jiu jitsu practitioner against a brawler - ie mixing fighters who were trained in different martial arts.

The rules also generally allow for different martial arts, but there are limitations to what is allowed - no eye gouging, no hits below the belt. No kicks would remove a significant fighting weapon, but you could argue that not being able to kick a guy in the balls also takes away a significant fighting weapon.

"The Japanese wont send their "champ" to Mayweather. Or have him fight in another country where they can't pre-determine the outcome."

Do you even know who Tenshin is?

Have you ever seen ANY of his fights?

I bet you haven't, otherwise you wound't be talking about "have him fight in another country where the Japanese can't pre-determine the outcome".

Any fight, ANY between Mayweather involving non-boxing rules will inevitably have one outcome only: Mayweather's complete annihilation.

Tenshin is 20 years old, a full contact karateka and kickboxer who also uses judo and jujutsu chokes, and joint locks.

Your Mayweather is well advised to go for the simple exhibition. Oh, and no kicks allowed.

Why not? If he's a boxer and the other guy was a jiu jitsu practitioner, there may not be a single kick, but it would still be mixed martial arts.

I understand what you’re getting at, but that would just be a boxing match.

I never understood why people like to watch someone beating another one almost to the pulpe.

Two people walk in with no weapons, no protection. One walks out. It appeals to people on a primal level.

The Japanese wont send their "champ" to Mayweather. Or have him fight in another country where they can't pre-determine the outcome. This has been repeatedly demonstrated by the kameda gang. Japanese fighters who never lose in Japan usually end up as mid ranked fighters elsewhere.

Have him challenge the "great" Connor Mc-something to a battle.

Poor Mayweather and his fascination with wealth made him an easy target.

What a sordid spectacle.

It's not MMA without kicking.

Whatever eventually happens, Mayweather expects to be paid handsomely for his services.

No kicking? Why would any one pay handsomely for a 9 minute bout of tapdancing? Waste of money.
