How can they even STUDY ending the chant?? It's flat out racist, and the people who do it engaging in racism.

Sometimes a catchy tune is just a catchy tune, regardless of what the words actually say. Just like "to Xerox" something means to make a photocopy, the tomahawk chop has been completely taken over by the Braves and their fans. It has absolutely nothing at all to do with any Native American behaviors at this point and never has. It has always been a catchy arm movement for the fans.

I do find it odd they went to NC to find Native Americans with which to consult. There are museums and artifacts about 30 miles from my home in Georgia.

In the end, the tomahawk chop will be removed and there will be paid Native American shows and trinkets being sold at the ballpark. East coast Native American's have learned from the Europeans how to earn money. Normally, it is by owning casinos, but this works too. Authentic dances, authentic Native arts, and a chance to speak with members of the tribes will be setup and paid for by the ball-club. In the end, the Braves will become more tied to the Native Americans on their council. Other tribes probably will not like this, unless their culture and history gets a piece of the action too. The Braves club is very wealthy, so the $5M-$20M/yr this costs will be added to their marketing budget.

BTW, the US Supreme Court has ruled that about half of Oklahoma is Native American land from a Federal criminal jurisdiction standpoint, including all of Tulsa, OK just last week. https://www.npr.org/2020/07/09/889562040/supreme-court-rules-that-about-half-of-oklahoma-is-indian-land The Natives in OK (many walked there from the eastern states as part of the Trail of Tears forced migration where over 4K died) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trail_of_Tears .

The tomahawk was just slightly modified from the hatchets that the settlers traded to the natives. They were ysed as tools and weapons by the natives and settlers alike. And of course the hatchet had been used in warfare in Europe for centuries before that. Never mind though, lefty insanity takes precedence.

Such is “progress”.

Oh neat. So the fans doing the chop while chanting a faux native American war song and wearing feathered head dresses are really doing so in reference to the Braves of medieval Europe?

So what?
