Let's hope the Americans don't decide to trash the players' quarters like they did after their loss in Nagano in '98 !

Congrats to Canada, and hats off to the US as well. Good game! Canada is really doing well on the ice this time around, clincing both golds for curling, and already the women's hockey gold. That said, Sweden will be a tough team to beat. I wonder if the final game will be broadcast. It has been in the past.

Just like yesterday's women's championship, another good tight game. US was the most consistent playoff team, but they just ran into Canada playing hot. Good luck to their next games.

For those interested in watching the final game, or last nights game... or for that matter a lot of content that hasn't been on the TV, go to the NHK Olympics website and click on 動画. You can scroll through all of their content and watch it on your computer. Also they have a lot of live broadcasts on the internet that they don't put on the TV. I watched the men's curling as well as the hockey (last night) on there. Yes, NHK is good for something, and they will broadcast the final game as well.

Dude, they only barely won by the lowest score possible. LOL

Still can't get over star-studded Russia not even making it into the medal round on its home court, huh?

Good job boys. Just keep doing the same thing against Sweden. Good game America!

Score belies how Canada dominated this game. USA made the mistake of naming Orpik, Faulk and one of Carlson/Shattenkirk/Fowler over better defensive play of Erik Johnson and Jack Johnson, plus the skill of Keith Yandle.

Canada's ability to cycle the puck was the difference, as their possession time and multiple shots at goal were noticeable over the USA one and done shots on net. The Canadian depth at forward, and overall skill level is amazing. If a second team could be named from the remaining players not named to the Olympics, it would be able to compete for a medal.

Sweden is a master of the bigger ice surface(in comparison to the NHL), and has a stellar blue line, so the finals is no gimmee for Canada. In fact, many who will favor Sweden, and while I favor the Canadians, the dominance of the defensemen over the USA will not be the same advantage over the Swedes. I'm hoping my team USA doesn't pull the gold or bust crap and give a great effort for the Bronze.

Lostrune....hey dude..russia beat USA 3-2. USA won due to a bad call by the american ref. Finland is better than Russia and definitely much better than the USA.

USA won due to a bad call by the american ref.

It wasn't a bad call. They reviewed it on video. This isn't futbol where they can't use video replay. Now don't be a sore loser and represent your country well as host. Don't act like those South Korean press.

Exactly.

Congrats to Canada!...good luck in the final!

The only thing I'd like to add, as a Canuck, is that I did call the final two teams, prior to the quarter-finals, and my golf club buddies paid up, at the end of the Canada-US game. Made more that day than I do some weeks. I'll be watching the final with them, too. And the monies on the line (but my nerves are one edge).

@Mar044

just a added note, the u.s. team walked over our flag in their locker room, so glad we won

That story is not true.

@TokyoDiman

Canada won! Thats great! They are a much better than the US.

Canada played a better game. Easily outskated us. Good for them. However, 70% of the NHL players are from Canada, so, it was not really a surprise.

The women's game was much more exciting.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Lostrune...it was a bad call because the net had been moved by quick. The goal would have definitely counted in the NHL. It wasnt this time and it wasn't noticed by the referee until after the goal was scored. They did review it and the puck went into the net. The angle of the puck actually had less chance of going in after the net was moved. In NHL this would have been concidered as well. Why dont you tell Gold to stop being a sore loser and complaining about the referees decision in figure skating. She didn't even place and still complained. But I guess its in an Americans nature to be a hypocrite.

Good one, FizzBit. You're absolutely right. Could have cheered for either side, with the men, if they didn't wear flags. But the women? Awesome game!

I hope the Canadians realize the Swedes are NOT pushovers when it comes to men's ice hockey at the Winter Olympics. The Canada vs. Sweden game could be a lot closer than people think.

@TokyoDiman : Forget that "bad call". Do you really think that Russian team demonstrated a brilliant game with a team of Finnland ? Stop crying and whining. Do not behave yourself like a typical "angry korean"

Congrats to Canada!...good luck in the final!

Bruin fan eh? Favourite bruins ever: Cam Neely, Ray Bourque (Other than the obvious Orr, O'Reily) Sorry for getting off-topic.

Technosphere...not crying or whining just stating the facts. You dont see me starting petitions to change the results do you?

Lostrune...it was a bad call because the net had been moved by quick. The goal would have definitely counted in the NHL.

Yes, it was moved by Quick - unintentionally as judged by the officials reviewing the replay video. Nobody's denying Quick hit the goalpost. Since it's unintentional, then by international rule, it's a no-goal.

Oh so now you're blaming the international rule - stop moving the goalpost (hahaha, pun). Fine, blame the international rule then, but ya can't blame the N. Americans for that rule since as you admit, it's not the NHL rule. IIRC the KHL follows international rules, so even KHL players follow it and know it more than them.

BTW, congrats to Finland!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Lostrune..yes...unintentional I'm sure just like quick does in the NHL. I am not surprised the US is losing. It's karma. Quick cheated against Russia by knocking the net off, nullifying the go ahead Russian goal. And, Kane, in the game against Canada, pretended he go hit in the face, drawing a penalty. I'm sure there were many more. The usa had no chance to win from the beggining. Finland was clearly a better team devastating the usa team with a 5-0 victory. Suddenly the Russian defeat by Finland doesn't seem so bad. At least they scored 1goal. Let's face the fact that USA was a weak team that should have never gone through to the semi finals.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

TokyoDiman, the US team didn't seem to care as much on the bronze medal game unfortunately - they seem to be playing to get out of the Olympics injury-free for the rest of the NHL. For that, they deserved to be crushed by Finland. If you think the US team is the only ones that try to influence the ref, then you obviously don't pay attention to hockey. But at least they're no sore losers, and you won't hear loser talk in their locker room. If Russia was so good, then they should've beat Finland with their home court advantage, no matter what happened before. (The US had no such advantage.) Lose with pride, Russia hockey - "winning shows some of your character; losing shows all of it."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Lostrune...no they cleaely played as hard as they could. Did you see the game? They were demoralized by the 3rd period. The Finns are a better team hands down and crushed the US squad. Btw I'm sure team america would have loved to walk away with a medal. Even bronze is better than nothing.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

TokyoDiman,

Yes, we watched the game. Even Canadian hockey ex-player ex-coach now-analyst Barry Melrose was disappointed the US team that played so great early in the tournament gave up after the first period. They obviously did not play as hard. If you've seen them early in the tournament, they were taking hits and taking shots. No longer in the bronze medal game; no longer want to risk injuries. Bronze is good if they happen to win it, but there's not much money nor accolades for it compared to lucrative NHL careers if they get injured. Unless the fight is for Gold and the accompanying riches from media sponsors if they won Gold, their NHL contracts are more significant to them it seems. That's usually been an issue with US hockey team of NHLers - Gold or bust. Finland was better; they wanted it more; the retiring great Teemu Selanne's last game for the Fins; they deserve it.
