Woooo!

We own the golden podium! Go Team Canada!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Awesome!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Damn.... people like Hotbox are going to be pretty upset they kept bringing up 'Canada's 30 medals' and 'own the podium'. We DO own the podium, and despite only getting 5/6ths of the medals Canada said it would get, half are gold, and that makes us gold.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

At least the US won the over all medals and will with their 10th in Mens Ice Hockey.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Could happen, but Canada will still have more Gold than any other country.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

MadokaKato - If all those quaint little bronze medals get u excited, have at them, buddy! Let the big boys worry about Gold!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Congratulations Canada for getting the most gold. You may fall short of your goal, but since all countries have made goals of medals, many will fall short anyways. Some like the U.S. have exceeded expectations. The U.S. proclaimed that they would get 25 medals at the start and they have done so and more; so congrats should go out to them as well. But that's a part of the Olympics.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Congrats to golden Canada, and congrats to America owning the podium. USA! USA! USA!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We DO own the podium

smithinjapan: You are correct. You do own the podium. I'd like to apologize for bringing up Canada's "Own the Podium" program again and again. I was just reacting in an irrational way to several posts you made about complaining that Japan's Olympic committee was the only one that made goals about how many medals they were going to win. I felt that this was not true, and that all countries did this (some countries met their goals, some came close, some fifty-fifty, some not so close, and others way off), and so concentrating on one country was not fair in IMHO. In any case, I humbly apologize for that. Anyway, congratulations to Canada and actually to all countries and their athletes for a wonderful Olympic experience. As with all Olympics, it is good to see athletes (amateur and professional) from all countries come together and promote the true spirit of the Games.

Hotbox: "I was just reacting in an irrational way to several posts you made about complaining that Japan's Olympic committee was the only one that made goals about how many medals they were going to win."

I know you were, bud. Although I'd like to point out the posts were hardly 'irrational' and clearly not made by myself alone. What's more I made the comments well before the Olympics began, when the Japanese media were promising a better performance than Nagano as though the medals were something Japan simply deserved.

" In any case, I humbly apologize for that."

I also want to make it clear I wasn't trying to gloat, but just poking fun. I agree that the Olympics are a great venue for people to come together and have fun. All countries to an extent portray their own as heroes and winners way before the fact; you then have some come home with gold, and some with a feeling of shame because they have been put on such a high pedestal. Then you have those who were not at all played up but who surprise, etc. Again, what I had trouble with, and this is not the first time, is the Japanese media's sense that they DESERVE more medals for some reason, while seeming to forget there's another world of competition out there. It reminds me of when they make up their own little 'Miss Universe (Japan)' competitions.

Anyway, it's sad the games are almost over, but I think it's fitting the host country did very well. There were warnings a few years back by the IOC to Canada that a host nation should not disappoint (when Canada faired badly), but here they have shown that they can step up when it counts.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah!! Canada the host country didn't pull the 88 Calgary failure.

Even Japan won at least 5 gold in Nagano games..

The U.S. has always been more consistent unlike Cana-DUH!!..

Watch Cana-DUH win single digit in gold for 2014.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well done to all Canadians - you guys and girls well and truly "Owned the Podium" - and Owned the rest of the athletes in Vancouver! We can all safely say now Canada is Number 1 Winter Sports Nation - daylight second. With Russia failing abysmally here, I predict the complete Canadian dominance will continue in Soichi 2014.

And most importantly - Well Done to the Aussie team! Awesome performances. Yet again showing the world how that competitive "Aussie Battler" Spirit can mix it with the best - despite us having only a fraction of the snow/winter sports facilities of many countries BELOW us!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Madoka: "At least the US won the over all medals and will with their 10th in Mens Ice Hockey."

And? Do you think the Japanese Seiko Hashimoto is happy with the medal colour? Already she's complaining of frustration.

There are two types of rankings when it comes to the Olympics: one system that describes the overall highest medal winner as the champion, and the other the winner of the most golds. I think both are missing the point, but since it's about medals and money, then I have to lean towards the latter, with some qualifications -- having simply one gold while another country has heaps of bronze and silvers doesn't necessarily make the former country 'better' or more of a champion, but having a dozen bronze medals while another country has 6 or seven golds is something else.

"Yeah!! Canada the host country didn't pull the 88 Calgary failure."

All countries have moments they regret. In Calgary there were numerous scandals people forget to look at, but yes, Canada didn't win any golds.

"Even Japan won at least 5 gold in Nagano games.."

How many this Games so far? Sorry... don't mean to burst your bubble, but think you need a bit of a knock-down.

"The U.S. has always been more consistent unlike Cana-DUH!!.."

How so?

"Watch Cana-DUH win single digit in gold for 2014."

Interesting prediction. Wait a minute... I know this poster... your double periods at the end of most sentences tell it all.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Madoka: "Watch Cana-DUH win single digit in gold for 2014."

Again, I feel the need to comment on your bitterness. So let's say your prediction is true and Canada only wins, let's say, NINE gold medals in Russia in 2014. That'll still be nine more than Japan has won in this Olympics, and quite a few more than Japan has EVER won, no?

Sorry, don't mean to be nit-picky, but since you asked for it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

All countries to an extent portray their own as heroes and winners way before the fact;

That is true, smithinjapan. Each country has their share of heroes who ended up fulfilling their expectations and not. The JOC did make a goal of 10 medals, and to be fair, getting 5 is nothing bad. I really don't think they went in having an attitude that they DESERVE it, but that they felt that IT WAS POSSIBLE TO ACHEIVE IT. After all, there was no campaign signs or commercials posted touting this message. I remember in a press conference before the Olympics began that they promised to do better than in Torino, and I guess they have. But then again, they didn't have anywhere but to go up after Torino's results.

In any case I do agree that many country's media, Japan included, often puts high expectations on some of their athletes and in the end become disappointed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The North Americans have done well in this winter olympics. Canada's 13 golds tied the most golds ever and possibly break it with men's hockey final left. USA's 37th guaranteed medal also on men's hockey final will be the most ever medals won in any winter olympics. Europeans probably can't wait for the winter olympics to go back to Europe (first time since 1998 Germany is not at the top of the medals table).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hotbox: I'm glad we agree for the most part. While we of course need the media, and as we are now USING the media, it can still be a bane to the lives of the individual. But as I stated above there was a HUGE difference in how Asada Mao, for example, was questioned by the Japanese media and others. In the case of the latter is often seemed like they were asking, "Why did you let us down?" instead of celebrating her achievements.

Japan did FAR better than it did in Torino, and it does indeed have that to be proud of. What's more they've made inroads in speed-skating, curling, and other events that they had no strength in previously. So I get sick and tired when I see the media covering only crying athletes, badgering them as to why they didn't win, and even seeking out punishment in cases like Kokubo.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bicultural: "Smithinjapan, you make good comments and you are entitled to your opinions, but your "interpretation" of the Japanese media's sense is very poor at best. Obviously Japanese is not your first language. I am actually a native speaker of Japanese and never did they imply that the athletes "deserve" medals. They only spoke of their efforts and how they hoped they would win a medal."

I'm talking about attitude, here, and you're wrong on all counts. The media presented the Japanese athletes in such a way that they seemingly already had the medals in the bag. Japan ALWAYS does this, and it's not poor translation, just poor knowledge of sports and whimsical promises on the part of the J-media and coaches. Look at soccer for example; what is it Okada said to the media? Japan will reach the semi-finals simply because South Korea did in 2002?

True, Japanese is not my first language, but I've been here long enough to watch them continuously blame everyone but themselves for their own failures when they promise too much to the public. You don't need to be proficient in a language to know when it's full of promises and then vague excuses and misdirected blame when the promises are not delivered. Heck, just look at Japanese politics!

Moderator: You're on the wrong thread. This one is about Canada leading the medal tally.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

most Americans think Canada is another state.

I think that says more about the education system in the United States than it does about anything else! LOL

Look, speaking as a neutral - Canada OWNED everyone - yes, including the U.S. - at these Games. They will likely own that top podium again in the blue-riband Ice-Hockey coming up soon!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

...Also, what Canada have done thus far in these Olympics is unprecedented. To win a staggering 13 Golds at home (and that will likely become 14) is mind-boggling, and has never been done before by any country hosting the Winter Games.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wouldn't it be funny if Cana-DUH lose to the US, in Canadian soil, playing their national sport?

It already happened before EH??

It wouldn't be much of a miracle, since they are both using NHL players. Miracle on Ice was when US college players beat the Soviet professionals. Now, if any team beats Russia, it's not a big deal. The Russian team is nowhere near as good as the Red Empire. The Soviets were dominating, because they had professionals who played together forever. If the Soviets were still playing as USSR and not in the NHL, of course they are almost unbeatable. Not even Canada's NHL stars unless they are playing together for more than a year and they don't.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

But let's not forget, what the US has done thus far in these Olympics is also unprecedented. To win a staggering 37 medals is mind-boggling --especially not as the host-- and has never been done before by any country in any Winter Games. So kudos on both for kicking much asses. Both overachieved.

I doubt they'll repeat it at Sochi 2014 though. There, perennial power Germany and host Russia would most likely be contesting the golds and total medals. US will most likely fighting for 3rd place, while Canada will fall back to about 7 golds.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

How do you own the podium and come in third in the overall medal standings? Owning the podium would mean having the most gold and the most overall medals. Canada should get their own international dialing code first, then try and own the podium.

1trickster:

To me, Canada is at the top of the medal table because they got the highest number of gold medals, period. Ironically, if you look at the official homepage for the Olympics (which I assume was Canadian-run), Canada is THIRD behind US and Germany. So how exactly is it done in Canada? I know how it's done in US, and I know how THE REST OF THE WORLD does it. To me, 10 golds is worth more than 11 bronzes, and I bet most will agree with me.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

10 golds is worth more than 11 bronzes, and I bet most will agree with me.

We're with ya Pukey. 1 Gold is worth more than a THOUSAND Bronzes! Canada, indeed, Owned the podium that matters to the rest of the world: the top one! And of course, the legendary Aussies also owned the podium in our own small way - 2 GOLDS, 1 SILVER! Now, who's gonna win that little ice-hockey game, folks? I'm on Canada 9 - U.S.A. 2. Any takers?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

USA will never allow Canada to defile the Men's Hockey Gold Medals (drinking beer, champaign and smoking some bud on the cherished Olympic ice). --> Prepare for battle losers you are going down !!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Look I'm just messing with you guys about Canada..

I have many Canadian friends, and I always give then cr@p about Canada.

I know Canadians get pissed when Japanese can't tell the difference between Americans and Canadians. Since it is so common for Japanese to go up to Canadians and ask if they are Americans.

Yeah Canada won 13 medals since they are going to lose to the Americans again in Ice Hockey. Do you know why NHL is willing to take 2-3 weeks off so their best players can represent their country? That's because they want USA-Canada type gold medal match. Without America, NHL would fold since Canada has far less population than the state of California. I think Tokyo has more people than the whole nation of Canada. It shows you how pathetic the Japanese Olympic committee is. Since NHL can't make $$ in Canadian cities, they have to make $$ in the US.

Why do you think Wayne Gretzky was traded from Edmonton to LA? Edmonton couldn't afford keeping the great one. He was only making a little over $800,000. In LA, he made 2-3 times that. Because Wayne Gretzky was traded to LA, 2 more NHL hockey franchises were made in California (Anaheim Ducks & San Jose Sharks). It pretty much saved NHL from folding.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

To me, 10 golds is worth more than 11 bronzes, and I bet most will agree with me.

Exactly, Pukey2. Which is why anyone getting silver or bronze has every right to be upset and frustrated for not getting the gold. Only gold matters. Nothing else does.

1trikster: "How do you own the podium and come in third in the overall medal standings? Owning the podium would mean having the most gold and the most overall medals. Canada should get their own international dialing code first, then try and own the podium."

Canada does have its own international dialing code; in fact, Canada invented the phone.

MadokaKato: "I know Canadians get pissed when Japanese can't tell the difference between Americans and Canadians."

No, only insecure people get upset about such things. Canadians and Americans are not so different. I used to think we were as different as night and day before I moved outside my homeland, but it's just not true. That being said, you are simply being arrogant and stupid to insist on pushing an issue you think is sensitive to certain people, no?

"That's because they want USA-Canada type gold medal match. Without America, NHL would fold since Canada has far less population than the state of California."

You've got a VERY bizarre inferiority complex. Who cares if Canada's population isn't that big? They still dominate in the sport, and clearly in the winter Olympics. In fact, it's being said that they've won more gold than any other nation in the winter Olympics in history.... sooooo..... shall we talk more about how bad Canada is?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Can't we all just get along?? LOL!!

Congrats to Canada on their excellent performance. Stuff to be proud of...

You should all know the US has always counted total medals as the standard of performance in the olympics...

Also the US has never been very good in the winter olympics so this time around has been extremely pleasant. No hair splitting on who's performance was best will take the shine off of that...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeay! Canada! And the day ain't over yet! (Just don't let the BC Liquor Commission catch anyone drinking on the ice!)

Time for cooler heads to prevail. Canada has had a nice run at these Olympics "13" gold medals and climbing- Unfortunately "that" was not their goal from the onset ! Their "goal" was to "Own the Podium"- meaning to win more "medals" than other country at these here Olympics. They conceded that title last week with an official announcement from their Olympic Committee. Having admitted this I will not waste anyones time in a detailed discussion as to how many of Canada's medals were won in "judged" events- a good half ! Or the very controversial "Home Turf Advantage" program where Canada denied access to the various venues from as far back as 2 years before the Olympics in the attempt to give the home team a decided advantage on the sleds runs and mountain sides. Now just south of the border is where the excitement lies for this observer. Team USA has had a record setting performance of their own- First, the national record- beating the previous record of 34 total medals won at Salt Lake. And second, the Olympic record of 36 previously held by the Germans. What an outstanding performance- and just for the record lets not forget that the US had a paltry 13 medals (total) in Nagano ! The US also ended decades old droughts by winning medals in 4 man bobsled and Nordic combined. The US also opened it's training facilities to anyone and everyone who couldn't get into Canada for the previous 2-4 years before the Olympics- how generous is that ! Again, my congratulations to Canada for their efforts- but to what extent has the national image of "we're not like Americans" been tarnished. Canadians love to win as much as their neighbours to the north, it's just too bad they went to such extraordinary measures to do so.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Branded: How very pathetic.

"Canadians love to win as much as their neighbours to the north,"

Ummm.... who are they?

You really should check your posts while you go off in jealous rants. Seriously.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It is pretty funny to watch a few insecure Americans on this site get all riled up about such an article. :) I don't see anyone else doing it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Canada is now standing at a total of 25 medals with 13 gold (not bad for a country with only about 10% of the U.S.A.s population) and the U.S.A. has 36 total ( a new W-Olympic record congratulation U.S.A.) and 9 gold.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cmon now folks- I got it right the first time !

"Now just south of the border is where the excitement lies for this observer."

Once again I sense some stressed individuals within the borders of Japan. When your discussions have to resort to pointing out spelling, grammar mistakes- or obvious typos- well, it's time for a vacation. Might I suggest "Alaska"- just a tad "North" east of BC Canada ! Enjoy !

0 ( +0 / -0 )

BTW smithinjapan- just what is so "jealous" about my post ? Everything I posted is factual ! And I expect the Americans to add to their total today.

Andlimboinjapan-

"Canada is now standing at a total of 25 medals with 13 gold (not bad for a country with only about 10% of the U.S.A.s population) and the U.S.A. has 36 total ( a new W-Olympic record congratulation U.S.A.) "

Lets not forget that within that American population there are also professional basketball, football, baseball. golf, hockey, tennis, etc etc etc athletes ! The US has a very well rounded sporting world complete with world class champions in every category both male and female. Again, no sour grapes, no jealousy, just the facts.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Might I suggest "Alaska"- just a tad "North" east of BC Canada ! Enjoy !"

What ? No firestorm ? Finally- a sense of humor prevails !

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Canada should be proud to win the gold medal total.

The U.S. should be equally proud to win the overall medal count while setting a record for most medals won at a Winter Olympics.

Congratulations to both countries!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Prepare for battle losers you are going down !!

say what?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Gooooooooooooolllllllddddddd!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

14 Gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Id hate to be branded a sore winner, because thats almost as bad as being branded a sore LOSER, but if Im going to be branded something, Id rather be branded a sore WINNER! Attention U.S.; get your stuff, and get the hell out of our barn! Gold again, baby!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Both North American countries have something to bring home with: Canada with the most golds ever, and USA with the most medals ever. The US in particular has done well in the last 2 Olympics it didn't host, not in the most golds (the host countries did), but winning the most medals, both summer and winter. Not since the days of USSR could a country do that. Imagine if Chicago would had won the 2016 Olympics.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Imagine for a moment that gold, silver and bronze were given points. Let's say, 3 for gold, 2 for silver and 1 for bronze. Now, please tally.

I did a 5,3,1 point system. Results:

US: 103 Germany: 96 Canada: 96

Great olympics for all three countries!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm a sore loser. I almost broke my 50 in TV after Canada beat US in Ice Hockey Gold Medal game.

I hate Canada!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well done Canada! Apparently, it was one of the best games of ice-hockey of all time! YOU GUYS OWNED THE PODIUM...YET AGAIN! That must have been the sweetest victory of all. I'd imagine it would be pretty much pandemonium on the streets of Canada tonight?!?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Again, my congratulations to Canada for their efforts- but to what extent has the national image of "we're not like Americans" been tarnished. Canadians love to win as much as their neighbours to the north, it's just too bad they went to such extraordinary measures to do so.

C'mon, brother, give them their moment in the sun. What they have just done has never been done before in winter Olympic history - 14 golds! Unbelievable! It will likely never be achieved again either, with other nations spending more on winter sports and becoming more competitive. GOOD ONYA, CANUCKS!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sure, Canada didn't own the podium, but....

Quality over quantity, eh!?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Vancouver put on an absolutely terrific Games!!

Way to go, Canada!!!

(From a U.S. admirer.)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well, Canada owned the gold podium; the US owned the overall podium.

BurakuminDes,

Actually, 14 gold medals (or 37 medals) could be done again, especially that the Winter Olympics is becoming a bigger deal (i.e. more and more money is being poured into it) and when another "big winter" country hosts it (e.g. Germany, Russia, US), and when more sports are added (such as women's versions of so far male-only events, like ski jumping). Winter Olympics still has room to grow.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Canada is not going to win 14 gold again.

The Ruskies will win the most gold, since it's going to be held in their turf. Usually host nations do their best at home. Even a pathetic country like Japan won 5 gold in Nagano.

All these so-called record number of medals, I mean come on?? If you compare to the 1980's the events have almost doubled so of course record numbers of medals would be broken. During the cold war, such events like short track speed skating, and snowboarding, plus cross country racing never exist. Snowboarding itself nearly doubled the events compared to the Cold War. Plus, the East Germans no longer exist with their undetectable steroids and the Soviet sport medicine which gives oxygen to the muscles are not banned.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

MadokaKato - who knows, maybe not. BUT YOULL HAVE 4 LONG YEARS TO THINK ABOUT IT!! WOOOOOOO!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

MadokaKa~ Canada will still love you.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Congrats on Canada for winning 14 gold.

Too bad they can never get that many gold in the Summer Games.

Doubt they'll win 14 in Soichi, but usually host country wins more medals in their homeland.

Even a country as pathetic like Japan won 5 gold in Nagano, and how many did they win in Vancouver? "0"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Looking at the medal count from a per capita basis is somehow much more satisfying.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Maybe I made a bad comparison to Beijing, but their Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony looked really cheap.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"The Canadians conceded earlier in the week that they wouldn’t win the most medals in Vancouver—the United States will do that."

"Conceded" you say ? Pretty obvious to both the Canadians and the Americans that it's the "total number of medals" that counts ! Better luckin Russia eh.

I for one was very disappointed with Canada's overall attitude leading up to and during these Olympics. The whole flap over the Hockey tournement in particular. Now it is common for other nations to criticise the US athletes often terming them brazen or arrogant. Yet I can honestly say I've never heard of a US organizing comittee of any kind boldly stating that the American team wants one medal/prize, say like baseball, over any other because it's the "national sport", the one most reflective of the people, the mind, the culture. Americans instead seem to invite the world to participate, enjoy, have fun. They even add the words "International or World" to let everyone feel welcome. "The World baseball classic" The World Series" "The little league world series"- the list is extensive. Canada ? Not so ! They declared that hockey is their sport and they will stop at nothing to rub the worlds face in it- a sad moment for the Vancouver Olympics I believe, now that its over I hope my neighbours to the North will reflect a little more on this broodish behaviour- most unbecoming I feel, especially for Canadians- who spend so much time reminding the world that they are nothing like Americans. In this instance- I agree !

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Branded,

That's because Canada is pathetic in Summer games and at the same time they are horrible in baseball and basketball too. This is one of the few things Canadians can be proud of.

Let them enjoy their 14 gold, because they won't get that many in the Summer games in 2012 nor in Soichi in 2014.

Yeah, Canada is horrible in Little League World Series.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

arjon- "This is one of the few things Canadians can be proud of."

Go ahead- be proud. But there is a fine line between being proud and being arrogant. I feel the Canadian Olympic committee has stepped over that line. Declaring that the nation values one medal over all the others sends the wrong message to the participants in those sports. That might explain why Canada does suck in basketball, soccer, tennis, marathon, golf, etc etc etc.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

But there is a fine line between being proud and being arrogant.

Ah, the irony of this comment...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't know if you spend anytime in Canada, but the Canadians are really nice people and I been to Vancouver and Victoria Island four times last year and it's a wonderful place. The Olympic hockey tournament serves as a perfect steppingstone for Stanley Cup chances for the Sharks. Four key players tasted championship victory, and one vital goaltender Nabokov got a familiar taste of defeat playing for the Russians. The Sharks' players, Thornton, Marleau, Heatley and Boyle won gold with Team Canada, in the giant shadow of Crosby's winning goal. Meanwhile, on Team USA, another Shark was in the thick of the action, that being Joe Pavelski. He created the assist in the last seconds of third period that tied with Canada. They've been through a pressure situation, immense pressure, national pressure and found a way to succeed and contribute.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Branded,

I guess you are not reading my post carefully.

I was being sarcastic over Canada's gold.

Since they won't get 14 gold in London, nor in Soichi too.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Have you realized that Canada's Opening and Closing Ceremony looked so cheap?

Torino and Beijing put a far better showing.

I guess the economy in Canada is that bad.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

arjon at 11:22 AM JST - 4th March. Have you realized that Canada's Opening and Closing Ceremony looked so cheap?

This is the signs of time. Your right, Canada's economy is stagnent and so are the rest of the world. Everything there cost 30 percent more compare to U.S. Canada spent $40 million for the opening ceremony which is a fraction of Beijing. However, they spent wisely and maximized the return from the investment. Canada did best they can and I congratulate them for their effort. I don't believe Russians are going to top Vancouver effort in 2014.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

OK, comparing Canada to Beijing is bad, because China is about to be the wealthiest nation in the world and they are a sleeping giant.

So let's compare to Torino which is more reasonable comparison. I thought Torino had a better opening and closing ceremony than Vancouver. Italy is no economic superpower, but I thought it looked so much better than Vancouver.
