I didn't know canoeing was such a cut-throat sport :)

ban him for life what if Komatsu had died?

He acknowledged that his drink had been spiked without his knowledge.

How do you know something you don’t know?

8 year ban is weird.

Lifetime contact with the official sport is the only option.

Taking an illegal (in sports) substance for ones own benefit is one thing, but to sabotage anothers chance is deplorable.

And it is reported he'd done other things like stealing to prevent athletes from training/ performing well.

No questions. Finished. Finished yesterday.

Why isn't this guy in jail?

An investigation by the canoe federation found Suzuki drugged his rival for Olympic team selection in order to cause his disqualification. The federation also found Suzuki had made repeated attempts to sabotage other competitors, not only Komatsu, by such means as stealing equipment used in training and competition. It has recommended Suzuki's expulsion from the federation.

What a piece of work. These are willful criminal acts, I don't see why the light sentence instead of charges

Was there any sign of collusion? No.

Was there a finely-tuned doping regime planned by the top and implemented throughout? No.

Do you have any idea what was actually going on in Russia? I'm guessing you haven't read the McLaren reports. Here's the second report. There is an executive summary on pages 8 - 10, that should give you some perspective. https://www.wada-ama.org/sites/default/files/resources/files/mclaren_report_part_ii_2.pdf

Eight year ban is not enough for what this guy did (I realize given his age it is more or less a lifetime ban). If he has just been caught trying to drug others, I would agree with it. But he had another player banned, and while the ban was lifted the voided results in competitions still stand. I hope at the very least that if no other punishment comes, Komatsu sues the guy for his losses.

What's more, this is an embarrassment to Japan's "no-drug Games" declarations.

No "hanging" for this guy, Alex?

Not just this drug incident - he's a habitual saboteur

In 8 years, he'd be 40 and likely no longer will have the ability to compete at the highest levels, but he should be expelled and even prosecuted

At least he didn’t have the guy clubbed ala Tanya Harding.

That was her husband

Japanese Olympics authorities,Politics,Mainstream Media and Ad industries are instigating excessive expectation toward Olympics 2020 everyday in Japan.

"Olympics 2020 must bring immense prosperity to Japan"

"Whole World will praise Japan"

"Japan become center of the world" etc

Such Delusion as if Olympics will change Japan to Paradise and Greedy business topics on the pretext of sports are rampant in Japanese society.
