A consortium led by Boehly, a co-owner of baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers, had already agreed a record £4.25 billion ($5.3 billion) deal to buy the Premier League club from Abramovich on May 7.

Sounds like wounded provincialistic pride. Compared with Major League Baseball in the US, no US based team is foreign owned. And US teams in the four major sports are the most successful financially.
So this US ownership of UK clubs will benefit those teams and their fan bases tremendously. The financial clout is already demonstrated by the price paid.
