According to wikipedia, Hanyu graduated from Waseda Uni on a degree in human information science. He wrote a thesis on using 3D motion capture tech and integrating it into a computerized figure skating judging system.

OK, perhaps Stickman should have focused more on the positives than the negatives, but forget about Hanyu for the moment. The guy is enrolled at Yale, plays guitar, used to do ballet and gymnastics. How does he manage to find the time? There's something to be said about getting a good education while being the top skater in the world.

However, I will say it was refreshing to see no Winnie the Poohs. It was the men's competition, not the kindergarten competition.

Hanyu should realize there is life beyond figure skating and maybe he should hit the books.

His two gold medals might tell you otherwise.

Chen has been hitting the books all this life and somehow I don't see him being a slave to any corporate dinosaur in any company. It's about widening your knowledge and horizons. Learning can be a wonderful experience.

Hmm yeah right a total flake for someone who already won Olympic gold 2 times back to back and still relatively young (26 years old) but definitely will struggle to keep up with the young ones in terms of fitness.

I think I may have watched Japanese TV for the last time tonight -- it is just completely unbearable. While there is no denying Hanyu is fantastic and a champion, the commentators and excuse makers just desTROY his efforts completely, making him out to be superhuman after the first day, and then making excuses the next. All Saturday it was "Yappari, Hanyu's the greatest! Yappari, legend! Yappari, god, even though he said he was going to retire!" today it's, "Yappari, it's been a tough year for (only) Hanyu! Yappari, it's been tough on him with the Covid-19 situation! Yappari, he was injured once (no mention of it when he was in first place)! Yappari, not his fault!"

They can never say, "Chen had a better day today, and his first place reflects his performance. Hopefully Hanyu will do better next time." Never... it's just excuse after excuse after excuse.

I love it because Hanyu is a total Flake. Chen, on the other hand, is a well-rounded individual who also attends Yale. Hanyu should realize there is life beyond figure skating and maybe he should hit the books.
