From a practical view, winter olympics are much more difficult to move to another location. Bob slee tracks are few and between. I guess only the Us could do it or Pyeonchang( not sure the bob track is still there). Japan will have a bellyfull of the Olympics. There ars always solutions though, but must be decided latest September.

I agree to take away the Games from China for humanitarian and political reasons. The Tokyo Games must be postponed to 2022. It is a lie numbers are down in Tokyo, they are manipulated. We are currently( only even with official numbers ) at a yearly mortality rate of 36500 ( 100 per day) or about 5x what it was last year in Japan.

Train for 6 hrs a day for 5-15 yrs and don't get to compete? The year of the Olympics is the only time those athletes get to be selfish. They've earned it. All the other years, they don't have time to be selfish any more than a single-income family can afford for the only person with a job to stay home. These are not wealthy people - except those few sports where someone can be both a professional player AND still be allowed in the Olympics - golf, baseball, basketball and tennis. It isn't like Olympic Judo pays well.

I hope Winter Olympics doesn't go ahead in China as they're purging the Uyghurs minority. I don't want Olympics to be a political statement but if it can be leveraged to pressure a country to clean up their act, then I'm all for it!

i have been and still am managing top athletes. The majority of athletes do not only train for olympics, actually almost none of them. The Olympics is one event, and we can hold it safely with no problems in 2022. The importance of the olympics are fading. One can not build a career on the olympics. It can give an extra boost in normal times but these olympics bring no joy and it remains to be seen if they will not taint athletes reputations depending on the outcome of things. Among my athletes over a hundred were olympic medalists and currently i work indirectly with maybe 30 to 40 potential medalists. I am against their participation in Tokyo and they know that. I am against to an important degree because as a professional i think it will harm their image and mainly because the games in 2021 are a health risk to high to take.

The 80 boycott denied a totalitarian dictatorship the attention and legitimacy it desperately craved. "See? We are not a bunch to drunken brutes! We are holding the Olympics!" China is the same.

The 84 boycott allowed the overwhelming majority of clean athletes to actually compete against other clean athletes (Ben Johnson excepted) and not against doped up Warsaw pact human/horse hybrids.
