The All-Star's is about getting asses in seats, Yu-chan.

U B popular, dude!

Keep your doubts safely tucked away.

Darvish is adjusting to a huge culturel and baseball transition. He'll be very good this year and great next year.

It would be a very wise business decision to put Darvish in the All Star game.

Yep. Like most "all star" games, the emphasis is on popularity, thus putting butts in the seats.

Darvish is a "BAD ASS" all star. Period. Who can question that. Did I just write the whole article or what???????

Good on him. Keep everything in context dude. Many in his position let it go to his head. That is great that he is keeping it in perspective.

The way he squeaked out what was a very messy 10th win, I'm glad to hear he's got his feet on the ground and realizes he's still got a ways to go in making his adjustment to a new game and a new environment.

7 innings, 4 hits, 1 base on balls, 10 strikeouts. Yeah, very messy win.

Kuroda (NYY) has a better ERA....

Kuroda's ERA was higher than that of Darvish last month, but it is true that he has lowered his ERA this month. However, batters are hitting .245 off of him and .228 off of Darvish. I'm not trying to say who is better or who is deserving of an all star game invite, but you can't just look at one stat.

While Darvish has done very well, I do agree this is more about popularity and filling the seats than anything. There are plenty of pitchers with a record as good as or better than his, but putting a Japanese pitcher who is extremely popular in Japan in the game will garner a lot of money, guaranteed.

There are plenty of pitchers with a record as good as or better than his

There are 3 players in the American League with 10 or more wins.

@The _Pope: you got two thumbs down for only stating the facts (stats). Must have been from "Hope and Change" believers.

And he is absolutely right.

The All-Star selections were just announced.

Starters are selected by fan-voting, so that's up to the fans. That's how some SF Giants players were helped by their fans' successful voting campaign.

Pitchers are selected by the All-Star coach staffs. Darvish wasn't selected by his own manager. But at least he still has a chance: for each team, one spot is left open for one of the Last 5 selections to be voted in by fans. Darvish is one of the Last 5.

As for Kuroda, he does have slightly better stats (particularly with sabermetrics factoring in only those stuff a pitcher can control himself and not those he cannot control, like fielding defense and runs produced by his teammates and thus win-loss records). Too bad he's not on the Last 5 too - that would've been intriguing.

What helped Darvish get ten wins at a half way point is that Rangers scores alot of runs. In the first half of the season, Darvish is new to opposing hitters. The real test is the second half where most teams have faced Darvish at least once. Darvish walked alot of batters and now he is adjusting to getting ahead of the hitters. He has a great stuff. If guys like Josh Beckett or Jon Lester was on the Ranger staff, the Rangers would be more dominant.

Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish doesn’t think he’s deserving of being an All-Star in his first season in Major League Baseball, despite his 10-4 record with the Texas Rangers.

I am very impressed about him being so humble unlike Americans. We do not tell others how good we are. That's up to others to decide. Well, many Americans disagree with me on this, but that's okay. Yu has a right attitude. I want him to succeed for a long term, and he's got my support.

@sfjp330, the Rangers don't always score alot of runs. In his 5 losses, Texas only scored 7 runs.

And I voted the Pope a thumbs up. Kuroda is one of the most under-rated pitcher in MLB.
