If Osaka's doesn't play well, by the time the US Open is finished, her rankings will have dropped like a concrete slab in the ocean.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

A lot of pressure on Naomi Osaka to prove that ranking.

A world no.1 ranking should mean you can generally be counted on to win. But right now, there are lots of women out there who can beat Osaka.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

She has a knee problem to worry about too.

Backing up her victory last year won't be easy or likely, but she has quality, as she showed when she backed up the US open with the win in Australia. So I doubt her opponents will think she is any easier to beat, even without the No. 1 ranking (for a time - I believe she'll win Grand Slams again)

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Even if she loses in the first round, seems she'd like remain in the top 10 anyways.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

While I am happy that suddenly tennis is popular among the readers, unfortunately it is for all the wrong reasons. I wish Osaka best of luck, as a 21 year old No. 1 she has a lot of pressure from various sides; she has huge talent and potential, if she can only mature towards the pressure of the spot light. Remember that most of the recent No. 1 women players (except Halep) could not keep their focus; same with the young generation of male players.

Nishikori is fine, last time I checked No. 7 in the atp rankings. Not exactly the crappy player that some readers insinuate

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Good luck, Naomi!
