“There is not much I can do any more”. Getting vaccinated would be a start. People didn’t like this guy, for whatever reason, before he was deported from Australia. He’s not really doing himself any favors.

Stay your butt home or La Migra will take you into custody,an immigration can deport you without cause

Deport him!!

he’s another whinger!!

hope Nadal gives it to him every time they meet!

Some things are more important than money and career.

Living, for example.

Good on Djokovic for standing firm and protecting his body.

Everyone else is vaccinated.

Do vaccines kill only antivaxers?

Novac Novak

Good on him, vaccine mandates make no sense and are unjustified. Wish more people would take a firmer stance and push back.

A man of principle. He regards his health and integrity as more important than money and compliance with a bad rule.

-5 ( +8 / -13 )

Oh well. He will not be missed.

But he doesn't give a toss about anyone else's health. Opponents at Wimbledon should boycott any matches against this dill

A man of principle

Djokovic and his partner are reportedly into entertaining conspiracy theories. All kinds of crackpottery spinning around in their heads.

These are the type of people you laugh at, edge away from in conversation, or for the more polite, change the subject to prevent them humiliating themselves even further.

Opponents at Wimbledon should boycott any matches against this dill

While it isn’t really a Wimbledon thing, I’d like to hear some funny chants.

Why would he take a vaccine that doesn't prevent transmission, symptoms or even death? Why would he potentially compromise his health with the very real possibility of severe and long-lasting side-affects?

In what world would doing so make even any iota of sense?

I think Djokovic knows a thing or two more about performing at the top level in the world, and what it takes to get and stay there in terms of health than you do. All you have in response is the pathetic cry of conspiracy theorist!

As Jay said above, the vaccine doesn’t even stop transmission, provides questionable protection, and carries the chance of severe side effects. Not even you can deny that. And the ones who are laughing are people like Djokovic, at the delusion and rage directed against him by those who are supremely confident that they know what’s best about what people should put into their bodies.

Might be worth considering a name change, factchecker. The vaccine doesn’t stop transmission, so Djokovic refusing the jab makes no difference to anyone else.

-4 ( +8 / -12 )

That's his choice and right to sit it out. But it would make my day if Nadal completes the Calendar Slam.

Great!!..

Ban that anti-vaccine clown from all tournaments..

He surely don't know more than the world experts that recommend the vaccine as a way to reduce risk for himself and others, but still he likes to pretend he does.

As Jay said above, the vaccine doesn’t even stop transmission, provides questionable protection, and carries the chance of severe side effects

The vaccines reduce transmission, gives much more protection than not vaccinating and the risk of severe side effects is several orders of magnitude lower than the infection, all these are false, mistaken reasons to refuse vaccination.

As Jay said above, the vaccine doesn’t even stop transmission, provides questionable protection, and carries the chance of severe side effects

Vaccides DO reduce transmission as proved scientifically, believing the opposite is no argument to refute this.

Tennis fans know Djokovic was infected with Covid once, so he certainly knows more than anyone else as to how it affected him. More than the "experts" and non-medical professionals.

No need for a vaccination if you take proper procedures to protect yourself in the first place. It's a myth pushed by non-medical professionals that everyone needs the vaccine.

Vaccides DO reduce transmission as proved scientifically, believing the opposite is no argument to refute this.

https://www.bmj.com/content/376/bmj.o298

And not getting infected DOES reduce transmission--wait--there would be nothing to transmit in the first place.

Novel idea.

Oh, wait again---China is taking that approach to not have its citizens get infected and it is working--if you consider not having over 1 million of your citizens die from Covid, and watching a city with 25 million people have ZERO cases to be working.

If you think it is not working, well, you are a denier in the simplest sense of the word.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

Tennis fans know Djokovic was infected with Covid once, so he certainly knows more than anyone else as to how it affected him. More than the "experts" and non-medical professionals.

No, he does not, getting infected do not magically makes the person aware of things the experts know thanks to detailed studies examining the immune response of countless people. That is completely false.

No need for a vaccination if you take proper procedures to protect yourself in the first place. It's a myth pushed by non-medical professionals that everyone needs the vaccine.

Vaccination reduces the risk for all populations for which it is recommended, that goes on top of every other measure the person may be taken because no measure can guarantee 100% protection. He has already been infected, that means his measures are obviously not effective at preventing it.

And not getting infected DOES reduce transmission--wait--there would be nothing to transmit in the first place.

But since there is nothing that can guarantee not getting infected this is irrelevant. He has already failed in this, so refusing to vaccinate is only one other thing he is choosing not to do to lower the risk for himself and others.

Oh, wait again---China is taking that approach to not have its citizens get infected and it is working-

Other countries have similar or lower death rates, and they do not need to cause death by limiting access to health services as China is doing, which means better results can be had with less costs, mostly by effectively vaccinating the population so infections stop being risky.

If you think it is not working, well, you are a denier in the simplest sense of the word.

Scientific and medical authorities even of the global scale like the WHO think this strategy is unsustainable and no international expert recommends them (precisely because it replace effective vaccines with oppression of the population), not being able to recognize this is what can be more clearly being in denial.

No, he does not, getting infected do not magically makes the person aware of things the experts know thanks to detailed studies examining the immune response of countless people. That is completely false.

The person who becomes infected obviously knows how he feels as opposed to some "expert".

No other country has as low a rate as China. You misinterpret your own created data.

Scientific and medical authorities even of the global scale like the WHO think this strategy is unsustainable and no international expert recommends them (precisely because it replace effective vaccines with oppression of the population), not being able to recognize this is what can be more clearly being in denial.

And many global authorities know it is sustainable. There are two years of evidence so far. The WHO is upset because China ignored its advice. Like to not wear masks. Even when the global medical authority the CDC, and the US president Trump were advising to wear masks, the WHO said, not needed.

The person who becomes infected obviously knows how he feels as opposed to some "expert".

He does not know how he was affected, which is what you wrote. A professional knows much more about that than him, and knowing how he felt has absolutely no relevance to the extra risk he represents to others.

No other country has as low a rate as China. You misinterpret your own created data.

No reference has ever put China as the country with the lowest death rate, your statement is demonstrably false.

And many global authorities know it is sustainable

You have presented exactly zero that say so. So this is not an argument just something that you say but can't prove. And no, it is not the WHO who is upset but the world because China choose to hide the original outbreak which brought the pandemic to the world.

Even when the global medical authority the CDC, and the US president Trump were advising to wear masks, the WHO said, not needed.

The CDC and Trump said exactly the same as the WHO, that masks should be prioritized to hospitals and people dealing with patients. This recommendation changed only when new scientific information showed a benefit in the general population and the supply of mask was solved.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

He does not know how he was affected, which is what you wrote.

Oh, you did not understand what "affected" means here.

A professional knows much more about that than him, and knowing how he felt has absolutely no relevance to the extra risk he represents to others.

Champagne comedy---someone else would know more how another person feels than that person himself!

No reference has ever put China as the country with the lowest death rate, your statement is demonstrably false.

And your sources are . . .non-existent.

Here's one of many:

https://edition.cnn.com/interactive/2020/health/coronavirus-maps-and-cases/

You have presented exactly zero that say so. So this is not an argument just something that you say but can't prove. And no, it is not the WHO who is upset but the world because China choose to hide the original outbreak which brought the pandemic to the world.

Another source:

If China gives up on epidemic prevention and relies entirely on treatment of symptoms, the medical system would run the risk of being overwhelmed,

https://english.cctv.com/2022/04/12/ARTIUDZm1JsyO3DZmNvaI1Eb220412.shtml

The CDC and Trump said exactly the same as the WHO, that masks should be prioritized to hospitals and people dealing with patients. This recommendation changed only when new scientific information showed a benefit in the general population and the supply of mask was solved.

Wrong.

And anyone in Japan knows people were wearing masks while the WHO advised against wearing them. You don't need a meteorologist to tell you it is raining before you open an umbrella.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Oh, you did not understand what "affected" means here.

He is unable to know better than the experts any meaning of the word "affected" that actually matters for the risk he means for others, how he feels is irrelevant.

Champagne comedy---someone else would know more how another person feels than that person himself!

Yes, which is why people do not automatically become medical professionals when they catch any disease, the doctors do know more than the patient about a lot of things concerning their diseases, thinking otherwise is nonsense.

And your sources are . . .non-existent.

Here's one of many:

And once again your source do NOT put China in first place when ordering countries from the least to the most in deaths per million, and once again any country reporting deaths including those with other comorbidities and less than 15 deaths per million surpases china that hides from 90 to 95% of the deaths doing that.

If China gives up on epidemic prevention and relies entirely on treatment of symptoms, the medical system would run the risk of being overwhelmed

Duh! that is part of the problem, instead of doing what many other countries have done and make an effort towards reducing the burden from the infection (so it does not becomes disease, complications or deaths) China bet everything in lockdowns, you are not excusing their failure, you are explaining why they failed.

And anyone in Japan knows people were wearing masks while the WHO advised against wearing them. You don't need a meteorologist to tell you it is raining before you open an umbrella.

Anybody can do anything they like, effective or not (and in Japan people used masks when symptomatic), this excuse does nothing to refute the fact that medical authorithies can only recommend things when they have scientific evidence to prove it, specially when this would mean taking the few masks that were available from the places where the evidence actually existed about a positive effect, which are hospitals.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

He is unable to know better than the experts any meaning of the word "affected" that actually matters for the risk he means for others, how he feels is irrelevant.

In the US, for example, medical professionals use a variety of scales to determine the level of pain a patient is in. One is the Numerical rating scales (NRS), where the patient assigns a figure 1-10, with ten being the highest level of pain.

What is the reason for those scales? To let the doctor know how the patient is feeling, because, as is obvious even to us non-medical professionals, no one knows how anyone is feeling better than the person who is sick or in pain.

To say otherwise is a parody of common sense.

And once again your source do NOT put China in first place when ordering countries from the least to the most in deaths per million, and once again any country reporting deaths including those with other comorbidities and less than 15 deaths per million surpases china that hides from 90 to 95% of the deaths doing that.

Just denying something doesn't make it not true, and failing again to provide a source makes your statements more suspect..

That is why people in several countries ignored the WHO's mistaken advice.

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/30/world/coronavirus-who-masks-recommendation-trnd/index.html

And Japan decided masks were beneficial on the same day. Who was right?

Novak Djokovic repeated his hardline refusal to get a COVID-19 vaccination Saturday as he resigned himself to sitting out the season's last Grand Slam at the U.S. Open.

Gotta give him credit for sticking to his principles.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

In the US, for example, medical professionals use a variety of scales to determine the level of pain a patient is in

This has absolutely no relevance in the advantages vaccination means, a patient has absolutely no extra insight about his level of immunity, or activation of cellular or humoral pathways that would make vaccination advantageous or not. Therefore the argument that he would know of he was "affected" and so he is right in rejecting the vaccine is obviously false.

Just denying something doesn't make it not true, and failing again to provide a source makes your statements more suspect

Your source says China is not the country with the lowest death rate, is there for anybody else to check, if your own source contradicts what you said what is the point to put another? you point has been already debunked.

That is why people in several countries ignored the WHO's mistaken advice.

The advice (echoed by every other scientific authority) was based on the available evidence at the time, which clearly indicated masks were useful... in hospitals when dealing with asymptomatic patients.

I know you like to believe scientists have access to time machines and should recommend things according to evidence found in the future, but that is not rational thinking.

Japan's experience is precisely the evidence that was collected and that was used to change the recommendations. Thanks for proving that this evidence appeared during the pandemic and not before as you mistakenly believed, you disproved your original argument.
