Let's hope the US drops this idiotic ban in the name of common sense. But given who's in charge right now, common sense is unlikely to prevail, so Novak will probably miss out on paying while remaining the moral winner.

What's a crazy rule.

Sounds like some kind of policy Japan would concoct.

Come on America.

It's ok champ. You pose danger. Thousands of immigrants every day passing the border, and it's not a problem, but you, YOU are a real threat. ;)

Those are the rules and they are reasonable until covid is minimized.

There it no right to enter a country to play a sport, for money. Sorry.

Just proves that money and intelligence are not tied together.

BTW, immigrants to the US - legal https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/28/us/politics/vaccines-migrants-border.html or illegal are provided with covid vaccinations. The illegal immigrants are dependent on the state's decision. NJ and GA provide vaccines to anyone over 5. I didn't search for all the other states.

I can't believe there is still any consideration that the mRNA vaccines aren't safe and effective for nearly everybody in the world.

Good on you Djokovic you are an inspiration to free thinkers around the world!

So anyone who wants to get vaccinated can, and feel safe.

Those people need not worry about elite sportspeople who want to control in detail what goes into their own bodies.

I am vaccinated, and would be happy to shake Djokovic’s hand.

When will this disgusting period of discrimination end? Whatever your argument is regarding the merits or disadvantages of vaccination democracies must allow for choice. Coercing people to vaccinate is completely unacceptable. There’s no reason to go into length details about peoples’ personal reasons ( the list is inexhaustible), but without freedom of choice you truly lose everything.

Anton,an immigration official can deny entry for no reason at all

He is not a citizen of that country - he's a visitor. Visitors don't get the same rights as citizens

Same in Japan - visitors to Japan don't get the same rights. Japan gets to choose who to let into the country

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/noncitizens-US-air-travel.html has the current rules. Permanent residents, US immigrant visa holders, and citizens don't need to be vaccinated to enter the USA.

Exceptions do exist for valid reasons. Did Djokovic apply for an exception? No?

There are very few differences between the rights of a citizen and a non-citizen, once inside the US. Entry into the country is 1. Voting is another. Visitors, permanents residents and immigrants have the same basic rights, including the right to protest anything. That is a core American value. Even when I completely disagree with a protest goal, I'm happy they have the right, provided they aren't impeding my right to travel by too much. A little inconvenience isn't a big deal and part of the deal for freedom. OTOH, that "inconvenience" will likely have me also using my freedom of expression (aka the finger) when passing, which often results in a wish that we have a blessed day by the protesters. ;)

I don't think Djokovic is an US permanent resident, immigrant visa holder, and certainly not an US citizen. So that should not be relevant to him

Well, he's not inside the US yet, so that shouldn't be relevant to him neither
