You will be sorely missed, Messi!

Yes. It truly is a crying shame. The club has just screwed up financially over a number of years, and Messi having to leave is just one of the consequences.

If he loved the club that much he could stay there and play out a few years for a nominal sum. He has had plenty of cash off them over the years. The contract Barca couldn't afford has been reported to be 70m euros a year - over £1m a week. That's an awful lot of money for kicking a ball. How much were you paid last week?

Football needs salary caps, a cap on the amount agents can earn and tougher restrictions on clubs living within their financial means. Money caused the ESL fiasco and will keep damaging football.

WOW! The super-millionaire of football is "Forced" to quit his beloved club because it can't afford his grotesque salary anymore.

Cry me a river Messe.

If you truly loved the club that has become your home, your life, then a little humility, appreciation and understanding should be at the fore.

Why Not?

I second you.

Steve job took a salary of 1 USD.

over £1m a week

I’d be absolutely ecstatic to earn 1% of that.

What does he want to do? Buy a new Ferrari every week?

If Messi really loved his club, Barcelona, he could have played for another year for one Euro. So I guess it's all about the money. One year of service to the fans who gave him many years.

I would cry also if I lost such a source of income. :)

@drlucifer If every player did the same Messi would absolutely have no problem. Barca got to this place because the whole team are bunch greedy leeches, especially the French gang

He took billions in stock.

This must be his greatest performance off the pitch, must be planning a future as an actor to call up the tears like that on queue.

Debt $1.4 billion, the debt amortization schedule needs to be restructured.

My life, Barcelona needs to consider its complete business model and whether it is really sustainable.

More players will have to be let go. The wage bill is eye watering

He looks an emotional mess.

If he had played for Spain in the Olympics, they might be carrying back the gold medal now instead of silver.
