I can’t believe it. The whole of the East End is out in the streets, car horns, fireworks, singing. A crescendo of joy. Lets go mental.

There didn't appear to be any contact at all. For me, it wasn't a penalty. The ref couldn't have seen that. It's what VAR is for, but VAR refs don't like to undermine their colleagues on the pitch.
After the 'hand of God' and Frank Lampard's goal v. Germany not being given, England fans know how that feels all too well. Which isn't much consolation if you are Danish.
Tristis Quepe
So they needed extra time and a penalty to beat Denmark.
Italy are going to tear them apart and it will be glorious to see.

60000 fans celebrating in the stadium. This is indeed the powerful rise of Covid Cases.
And what will be the final match? Still the 1966.

I got up at 4am to watch the match, ITV hum, with a little help of a VPN.
I am the walking dead at work. Raheem Sterling is a serious grafter, England deserved the win.
To be fair to Denmark, that penalty decision was a choker.
I got a result on the 1-1 final score (90 minutes), I will donate half the winnings to my local agriculture association.
Great fun to watch. Italy/England on an England win, I got 9/5,
Ah_so
Pretty solid performance from England, but they'll need everything they'll need everything they've got against Italy.
Denmark were playing for penalties from quite early on and that decision cost them in the end.
Alfie Noakes
Soft penalty but a solid performance against a good team. Kane and Raheem were terrific. Kasper Schmeichel was excellent, made some good saves. The final should be fun.
Ah_so
A forced own goal, and the penalty was marginal, but it was reviewed.
Overall, England were the stronger team. And it was only the first time England have conceded a goal.
KariHaruka
I've had no sleep, but I don't care. England are in a final for the first time in my lifetime!!!!

Man of the match?
Schmeichel, Kane, Sterling?
I think Kane, and Sterling were outstanding.
Schmeichel threw himself at everything. My humble opinion Schmeichel.
He denied England on numerous occasions.
Ah_so
True. He was excellent.
But overall England were the stronger team.
Dare I say... football's coming home

Woke up at 4 and watched the game.
After 20 years of watching in the uk
And 20 of 4 am wake up for these games here I finally went back to bed happy.
Would have loved to watch with my dad,
Jimizo
Not a pen. I burst out laughing when that was given. As mentioned, Denmark went negative and England on the whole were the better side.
England unconvincing in this game and Spain played Italy off the pitch in the other semi.
Final a tough one to call. The last World Cup final was an example of an entertaining final among a lot of dour, negative tournament finals. Hope we get a good one.
A ‘final’, mate.
Ah_so
My first game in Japan was 1998 at 4am. England lost to Argentinian
Let's hope we win.
Tell_me_bout_it
chill out guys. It's coming to Rome.
With love, from Florence.

anti-football....the easy side of the draw.....an own goal and a fake pen.....congrats on sweeping all before you. Other than the 4 against a poor team (Ukraine) has England actually looked good? I don't think so.
Thing is, any fan would take it though to reach a final. I really think that Italy are a better side and will take football home to Rome, but if VAR are going to bottle big decisions because it's England IN England then anything can happen.
falseflagsteve
Very pleasing. Shame I was tucked up in bed and unable to watch the match.I shall try to watch the final of course..
Jimizo
Not very entertaining but I wouldn’t go that far. The first images that come into my mind when I hear ‘anti-football’ are the Italian sides of the past with negative tactics and cynical defending ( Gentile, Bergomi, Baresi etc ). To be fair, this Italian side is a bit more entertaining than that. Maybe the modern game with the rule changes just doesn’t allow for it.
Some dude
The media seem pretty convinced that it was a dive, or if not, a very dodgy penalty.
Then there was the “fan” shining a laser at the Denmark keeper.
Why does football / soccer attract cheats and lowlifes?
Jimizo
Give us a list of sports free of cheats, dopers, lowlifes, d##knead fans etc.
Take your time.
Ego Sum Lux Mundi
You English aren't half good at playing your achievements down... Denmark scored from a dodgy free kick, Kane wasn't awarded a definite penalty, England dominated from about 65 minutes onwards inc. all through extra time. Totally deserved winners. Great performance. Denmark were worthy opponents, but clearly the better team won.
Ego Sum Lux Mundi
Just to add, do you think the Argentinians look back on Maradona’s hand of God moment at Mexico '86 and go, "well to be fair chaps, we didn’t deserve to win the World Cup"… do they fk!!!
Over the entire game England deserved the victory. Onto the final. Onto Italy. May the best team win.

Just as one example…I’ve never heard of tennis fans rioting in the streets when their favorite player loses.
Jimizo
@Some dude
Fair point. You could argue that team sports tend to create more extreme tribalism. Tennis is more of a genteel pastime. I see it more like an afternoon game of bridge for the doctor’s wives in comparison with a football match.
Then again, how about the lowlifes/cheats? Never seen tennis players throwing spoiled brat tantrums on and off the court? Abusing officials? Doping? Match fixing?
Any other sports which attract a better class of participant?
Tokyoite
LOL - Yes that's right.
And the other games such as 4-0 win Ukraine, 1--0 win Czech Rep and 2-0 win Germany(!) have no connection to England getting to the final at all!
Some dude
Any other sports which attract a better class of participant?
This is going to get removed for being off topic, I guarantee it, so I hope you get to read it before that!
I think the attitude of the participants is informed by the norms of the sport, to a degree.
Take judo for instance. Never studied it myself, but I’ve learned other martial arts and subsequently done quite a bit of reading on the general subject.
There seems to be an unwritten rule (maybe it is written down, I don’t know) in judo that manners and attitude are a massive part and parcel of the sport. You never ever challenge the referee’s decision. Whether you win or lose, you maintain your composure as best you can (the Japanese seem to be better at this than foreign players, who often get excited and pumped up when they win), you bow without fail at the end of a match, etc. In other words there is little tolerance for bad attitudes, so it is rare to see examples of poor sportsmanship.
There was a famous fight some years ago when a Japanese fighter lost to a French fighter over a totally wrong referee’s call. And this was a hugely important fight. The Japanese team itself launched an official protest, but the fighter himself afterwards just said something like “I lost because I was weak”. No excuses.

Back on topic please.

In-ger-land!!!
Red cross defeats white cross
Everybody was just waiting how they were gonna mess this up in the worst way possible, but for once, the Wrath of God was on the other side this time
First Final of anything since '66
(At least they're undefeated in the finals, while Italy has lost 3 of 4 Euro Finals)

I just read that Uefa have opened disciplinary proceedings against England following the game. Three incidents by supporters apparently - someone shining a laser on Schmeichel's face during the penalty; disturbances during the national anthems (no details, sorry); setting off fireworks. The first sounds a little serious, not so sure about the other two.
Fighto!
Not sure who will win the final. England has the best defense, Italy more flair.
But I am sure of two things - the Italian anthem will be drowned out by boos, and songs about winning a war over them 76 years ago will be brought out.
Bill Adams
To those questioning the award of a penalty to Sterling I would simply point out that in the 74th minute Kane was brought down in the box. This was a dead cert penalty and there are plenty of close-up photos available for all to see that clearly show how his ankle was tripped, but the ref didn't give it. This was a scandalous decision, and even if the foul on Sterling was very slight the point is that England more than merited a penalty. The better team won and justice was done.
