Pundits when they saw the England line up:

So negative. Spoiling tactics.

Pundits after the match:

Tactically astute. Mature.

Not bad work if you can get it.

It's the tournament of the underdogs.

I see a big surprise at the end :

Well done, but the booing of the German anthem at the start was note a good look, Brits.

Understandable, as the opening lines are "Deutschland über alles, uber alles in der Welt, which means "Germany over everything, Than anything in the world..."

How ignorant can you be? You do realise that that's the original first stanza which isn't even sung anymore? It hasn't been used since the war. They use the third stanza now. Best not to spread misinformation and just acknowledge the fact that Brits just can't help themselves when it comes to bringing up the war in football.

I don't like booing another country's national anthem, but whatever, it was a great victory, and fantastic to get Kane on the score sheet.

The path to the final looks clear, although England can balls anything up.

Is football coming home? Good to see the Three Lions and their supporters roaring all over the UK. A superb nod from skipper Harry Kane and a marvelous strike from the ever-dependable Raheem were enough to book a passage to the next phase. All the best to England and their fans in the challenges ahead.

Scenes.

Excellent result, bravo to the boys! Ukraine next up, then Denmark or the Czechs in the semis. Then surely Italy or Spain in the final. Sounds easy, right?

Pretty provocative, if you ask me, given Germany's history.

Germany did bad things over 76 years ago.

For how long can people justify booing their anthem? Furthermore, why boo the Croatian anthem also? Seems like these dropkicks boo any other national anthem.

Only a lowlife would ever boo a national anthem, luckily I am sure its just a minority.

Last time England has 4 straight clean sheets in a major tournament - 1966 World Cup

Ukraine, Czech, Denmark - those are the teams standing left for England to reach the Final, with Wembley being the Semifinal too. If England doesn't do it now, they'll never gonna do it

Well done, but the booing of the German anthem at the start was note a good look, Brits.

They also boo when players take the knee - do ya expect any better

What a great game. So happy to watch that. Got England!

I got up at 4am in readiness, only for the Sweden game to come on and me to realize I'd got the time wrong and missed it. I won't do that again!

Since I only saw the highlights, I'll just say that's 15 goals in the last 20 England games now for Sterling, and it was nice to see seven-season wonder Harry Kane get one too.

It's coming home!

Can’t tell from this if you are speaking to the Brits or speaking as one, but in either case this is not remotely surprising. Football fans are a disgrace to the UK, have been for decades, and likely will continue to be.

Yes, there is that element in football fans and this is especially relevant in International football, especially when it comes down to rivalries such as England Vs Germany. In the 70’s and 80’s English football was rife with violence and racism. This was a serious problem that had been dealt with fairly well. Football is much more family orientated and grounds are far safer than before.

There’s no smoke without fire. Why is it that England (point taken about the UK, and apologies to fans of Scotland, Wales and NI) fans have the reputation of being ignorant louts, especially when abroad? It doesn’t come out of thin air.

Plus football is the only sport which continues with the “war” metaphors. You don’t get that level of immaturity when, for instance, there is an England-Germany matchup in tennis.

Still, I guess as cheap entertainment for the proles it serves its purpose.

Hooray! What a great match.

I'm British and certainly no fan of the royal family. The National anthem is a song to someone who probably does not exist, to save someone who probably should not exist. But there you go. Football fans in England embrace it. If I am at an international event where anthems get played, I reluctantly rise to my feet. Reluctantly, because anthems and flags have caused millions of deaths over history to keep the elite in power. But out of respect and in respect of the countries I rise, but never sing. British football fans - in which I would include myself as a long time follower - are, and let us not be anything but honest - a boorish bunch. Many of them are racist and believe all foreigners should be booted out of the UK. That was what Brexit was based on. Racism. The booing of footballers taking the knee against racism is beyond the pale.

Please don’t tar all supporters with the same brush, stereotyping is thankfully almost a thing of the past. The England team only represent England not the UK BTW.

Great to see the win, I stayed up late and chatted to some of my chums back home whilst watching. At the same time Patrick Viera was announced as new Palace manager, for me an unexpected bit of news, not sure what to make of it yet.
