Its not the "impact" that's important. It's a show of conscious that your country doesn't agree with the genocide, forced sterilization, and a destruction of a culture that's taking place there.

The EU's excuse that the diplomatic boycott takes away from the athletes' experience. It doesn't. Athletes couldn't care less what stuffy suit shows up. They only care about the thousands of regular fans that show up to cheer, scream, and share in the excitement and experience of the competition.

Is sad how democracy had turn out and how divided they are. The rise of Asia is coming. Soon the west is gonna be a shell of what it use to be. Is already crumbling if you ask me. With all the soul searching and identity crisis.

Disappointing. Apparently money is more important than standing up for human rights with these people.

“Politicizing sporting events like the Winter Olympics does not seem useful to me,” said Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock told ZDF broadcaster that as little as possible should be taken away from the participants themselves. “Athletes prepare for years, sometimes half their lives,

French President Emmanuel Macron, who said last Friday that “the pain such a boycott could inflict was questionable. “or this, and that's why it should not be used for political issues.”

Weasel words, the athletics would still compete, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock mutterings absolute nonsense.

The Government of China would not be throwing it toys off the table if this diplomatic boycott didn't hit the mark

Appeasers to the very root of there being, cowards, focused on their trade balance.

“An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile—hoping it will eat him last.” Sir Winston Churchill

The measure to President Putin is clear, the EU doesn't have the stomach to stand up to global bullies.

Well, it seems that the rest of the European countries have more brains, common sense and dignity..

They don't do international children's tantrums.

Lol..

Germany cannot live without its exports to China...its second biggest partner after America.

Merkel was a bit of a right winger, but she too had to tip-toe the U.S.-China dispute.

Not surprising that Boris Johnson (the poster child of Brexit) agreed with the Americans, whereas Germany and other EU leaders have vacillated.

I know I am going to sound like a 'Yank', but the EU ought to man up and walk the walk and talk the talk.

China won’t play the game of the globalists so she will become a target to make her inconsequential. The western world is going to isolate China into submission. George Sorros withdrew all his investments in China and the Chinese are calling him the son of Satan. China will ultimately become inconsequential. Strong powers like Russia and Islam extremist nations like Iran and Turkey will be eliminated in the Ezekiel 38 war. We have a systematic destruction of America. So the globalists agenda to usher in the New World Order, the Great Reset, the one world government will become a reality very soon. Christians will be raptured and the Christ rejecting world will be left to suffer the wrath of God.

I don't agree with politicizing sports but if any country wants to do it they should do so with conviction.

If they want to boycott don't send the athletes.

There is no genocide. The Uighurs involved with Islamic extremists are detained.

According to the Uighur Tribunal, there is "no evidence of mass killings" in Xinjiang, but “alleged efforts to prevent births amounted to genocidal intent.”

The issue of whether China's alleged abuses amount to a genocide has divided the international community. The US government has accused China of a genocide against the Uyghurs.

But the UK government has declined to accuse China of genocide. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has argued that genocide is a specific term with legal force that should only be determined by a criminal court.

Johnson shows that the English understand their language and the proper use of vocabulary better than the Americans.

Well the response is just appropriate then, or maybe also misunderstood.

They're doing a boycott without actually boycotting

The EU has always been wishy washy on diplomatic issues. So many members all with different ideas and priorities makes them as a whole unable to act in many circumstances. The lack of real unity is a hallmark of the EU.

There goes the AP again with their subtle support of the Olympics. They never want to offend the IOC

With omicron lockdowns incoming, politicians being non-essential for sporting events, I doubt any of them will go anyway. The boycotts are political showboating.
