Nothing.

It should ALL be about the athletes anyway. I couldn't care less if any diplomats or heads of states show up or not. Don't like any of them anyway.

The diplomatic boycott, while mostly symbolic, sends a clear message to the CCP that the world objects to their behavior. And if it "hurts China's pride" then good, it's serving it's purpose.

Minorities in the boycotting countries may not have full equality, but unlike the Uighurs at the hands of China, they aren't being subjected to arbitrary detention in state-sponsored internment camps, forced labor, suppression of tradituinal and religious practices, political indoctrination, severe ill-treatment, forced sterilization, forced contraception, and forced abortion.

It shows us who are the Chinese apologists/enablers or who is being backed by them to undermine world democracy

The best action is to completely ignore the winter Olympics. Undermines advertisers, and your local sportscasters who are also enabling it.

Let the athletes do their thing but otherwise the winning move is not to play

The Olympics is more corrupt than all of the corruption in China, or anywhere.

The solution is to end the Olympics.

Every sport has world championships every year.

The West-led diplomatic boycott is lenient yet most acceptable to most concerning parties. The Beijing Games will suffer, get more troubled with covid resurgence than th diplomatic boycott. China's zero covid totalitarian approach is self-inflicting although the CCP still insists. A single case led to a full shutdown of Disneyland and compulsory testing to all millions of locals? Crazy.

> I'm surprised the Middle Eastern countries are not boycotting, especially when it's about their fellow Muslims who are being thrown in concentration camps. Seems a little weird IMO.

Unfortunately it's probably too avoid addressing abuses in their own counties

Ah, CHINA! Don't fall into the chest thumping we see the Western idiots invariably falling back on. Just bow graciously to those refusing to send their 'diplomats' and say, "Thank you. We will NOT miss them" and close the call. As long as the athletes come and do what is done in the spirit of a nonpolitical INTERNATIONAL Olympics, who needs 'diplomats'? Our athletes are our most salient representatives.

This isn't exactly a boycott, all the athletes will still be there...

And I wouldn't be surprised to see Sen. Ted Cruz or someone like him go attend the games and make a big show of it, just to 'stick it' to Biden.

This isn't exactly a boycott,

Um:

What does an Olympic **diplomatic boycott **achieve?

Followed by:

*In Australia, then the United Kingdom and Canada, governments announced their refusal to send officials to the Winter Games being held Feb 4-20. The move against China started in the United States on Monday.*

Many of the Middle Eastern countries don't have as much concern for human rights as in the West, so this isn't that surprising. And the ME countries that do have better human rights are small, and probably don't want to poke the dragon. Better to leave that to the bigger countries.
