”return” usually means the return of serve shot, so that would mislead.

Not really. That shot is called a "return of serve." A "return" is usually a shot hit back during a rally from an opponent's aggressive shot, like a volley from the net. In my experience, it always refers to a ground-stroke.

Saw it. The shot itself is still cheap to me. The effort and reaction to get there is impressive. I guess when I heard read "unreal shot" I was just expecting something else. If it said "unreal return" maybe my reaction would have been different.

Not a tennis fan but I personally don't see what the big deal is. Actually looks like a cheap shot seeing as it didn't go over the net and there was no way for his opponent to return it.
