Federer shatters Murray's Wimbledon dream

Murray is getting closer - I reckon he wins a slam within the next 2 years. Next years Aus Open is my pick for Andy. Federer is still amazing but he will start to fade with age, and Nadal's injuries are definitely catching up with him. Djoko is still a huge hurdle to overcome, but there will no doubt be a slam where Murray has a good draw and only meets one of these guys in the final.

@tmarie yes true tennis can be boring sometimes but if you saw the 2008 Wimbledon final between Federer & Nadal youd change your mind, game was epic!!

What a player Fed is, 17 Majors and still going strong, back to No.1. Murray should win a Major in the future, he is still young enough. Better chance for the Brits than Timmy Henman, that's for sure!

Pukey: I was making an observation based on many previous occasions that the British press have done this. I am not in any way "dissing" Murray or the Scots in general.

No - ALL the UK news websites are spinning the story of a plucky Brit who was up against a genius but endeared himself to the nation in defeat... because that's what attracts the most readers.

The BBC's nauseating commentary was available on the NHK broadcast last night. When Murray was winning they were saying old man Federer isn't the player he used to be. Then the penny dropped that Murray wasn't going to win and Federer suddenly became a genius and possibly the greatest person that ever lived within a couple of minutes!

Anyway its all good as Murray has probably inspired Britain's youngsters to pick up a racket and play tennis.. for a couple of weeks or so. The other three grand slams don't exist (unless Murray does well).

Fed seemed to make too many unforced erors in the first two sets and i thought he looked lerthagic and tired , almost lazy, I didnt think he would manage to take it out actually but glad he did. Well Done Fed.

I listened to bits of this match on the official website, and Murray was reduced a blubbering wreck at the end. Not a die-hard fan of Federer but I'd say he's the best ever all-round tennis player (not the best clay player by a long shot). He's broken records. You can't not respect him.

Get over yourself! Surely there was at least one non-Scot British person amongst the crowd supporting Murray. Could you not hear the applause and cheers for him? I'm certainly not a fan of his, but it's got nothing to do with the fact that he's Scottish. And I'll admit he's done extremely well - 4 Grand Slam finals - nothing to be ashamed off, even if he never wins a GS. However, F, D and N will always be on a higher level.

I read that both Federer and Serena Williams are 30. Sue Barker was saying, after the women's, that 30 seems to be the new 20's. Here's one for us old folks!

Murray always seems to remind me of that actor who now plays Spiderman.

Experience, finesse but mostly mental strength of Federer is the difference. Once Murray stops crying after losing games, then he will be mentally strong enough to match Novak, Rafa and Roger. I hope Roger can win his 8th Wimbledon next year.

Getting to the men's singles final at Wimbledon is an achievement in itself, well done Andy.

I watched a bit but honestly, to me, tennis is just boring. Anyone who knows of Murray knows he has a history of chocking at Wimbledon so the results isn't surprising. Is the Uk media going to start attacking his mother now like usual?
