Morocco beats Spain on penalties to advance to quarterfinals

Gotta say, Morocco is on my placed to visit in the world after seeing that game and their fans.

They planned hard, missed a few shots. Spain had many more tools and should have won.

My DVR of the match got everything, including the both 15min overtimes, but not the penalty shots! The recording ended just after the 2nd overtime period ended. Denied!

Ok, just watched it from a fan recording in the stands.

I never liked shootouts to determine a winner. Don't know that this "fair", but it isn't like 2 hrs of play didn't happen first.

Looks like another European country fails at this World Cup. This might be the last chance for a European team to win. From now on Asian teams and African teams will win.

Great win for Morocco. Good to see a side from outside of Europe and South America in the quarters.

I see it as fair. Taking pens is a skill.

Every team in the World Cup should have players who’ve practiced pens.

Hakimi's panenka to win it for the Moroccans was outrageous, what nerve it must take to do that. Football is the best, there's nothing to beat it.

Outstanding game by the Atlas Lions! To manage to get past this brilliant Spain team shows they are ready to step up and compete for honors. Portugal will be a tough test, but on watching that performance, I cannot go past Morocco.

Morocco's goalie Bono, must surely rate as the best at this WC so far!

If you just observe the body language and run up - 90% of the time - you can tell if he is going to score or miss.

All credit to Morocco but a brilliant team would have put Morocco away comfortably.

I'm not an expert on soccer but I thought Spain had a patchy tournament. They only played 1 good game up against a weak opposition. I tip Portugual to make the final.

Well,as football history tells us from the Italy 1990 world cup there is always one African team performing well in the tournament.

I still remember back in 1990 as a young teen Roger Milla playing amazingly well for his team and now Morocco is honouring it's continent.

As a European myself I was sympathizing for Spain but in the end Morocco well deserved to pass the round as they played it fair and square,so congratulations to them.

Teams like La Furya Roja or the Samurai Blue need to finish the game in normal playing time. Winning from the spot require other skills, temperament, weight, and height. The Atlas Lions were better equipped for their onward pilgrimage. Congratulations.
