I'd never confuse grown men playing a game as "heros", unless they actually risk their lives for someone else. That's a "hero." Heck, people playing war video games aren't heros either, until they protect others with their lives at risk in the real world without the "restart" button.

But we watch because these athletes can display impressive skills both individually and as a team. I've already set the DVR to record the next 4 games. Gotta watch. I'm invested now. I see Croatia vs. Brazil is on now.

Their best is yet to come. Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Luca Modric, Olivier Giroud - they are all proven heroes waiting to lay their hands on the World Cup. All the best to them and to their fans.

“ Ronaldo isn't dumb. He knows his career is slowing and that he needs to find a way to gracefully leave over the next few years.

I heard the crowd's support when he stepped on the field and when he touched the ball in play the first time.

He's had an amazing career and life, well beyond any expectations.

He isn't 21 anymore. Time catches up with everyone. Plus, he can spend more time with his lovely wife and kids. It isn't like money will ever be an issue. “

Nice post; well said(!)

There’s another possible scenario: IF Portugal wins the WC, he retires (he confirmed this to Piers Morgan, apparently they’re friends now); the final will be his last game and what a way to finish his career/I can’t think of a more perfect way to go; lifting the trophy; that would be one of the most iconic images in the history of football; fantastic WC; look at the possibilities: England (finally) going all the way (and against Brazil or Argentina(!)), England-Portugal, Brazil-Argentina, Portugal-Brazil (brothers playing against each other), Ronaldo vs Messi(!), etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

You say this but you know for a fact he won't be turning down that $300 million from Al-Nassr.
