It all felt off when he didn’t twirl.

Precisely. Embarrassing and shameless attempt to steal a goal from a teammate. He knew damn well he hadn't touched it.

I wouldn't trust Ronaldo to put his team before himself if a moment came along where he had to choose.

Ronaldo is always going to be Ronaldo. He will always preen, dive, and demand the spotlight. His antics were tiresome a decade ago. Ronaldo is now old and past his prime, but I don’t expect him to fade gracefully.

Today  07:18 am JST “ He wasn't denied a goal. He didn't touch the ball and in fact tried to deny his teammate, Bruno Fernandes, the goal by trying to claim it himself. It's totally reprehensible behaviour, revealing, as if we didn't know, that for CR it is only about him. It hardly makes for team harmony. I don't know how his teammates continue to put up with him. “

Agreed (!);

..

A player with more than seven hundred goals can’t accept the fact that he isn’t a key player anymore (and his career is coming to an end); I get it, that ain’t easy; and he knows he isn’t finished, he still has a lot to offer to his teams BUT not by being in the starting eleven; Portugal has a serious problem here: they play better without Ronaldo(!); in fact, they have enough power to easily beat any team (that includes Spain, Brazil and France), but the coach doesn’t have the courage to put him on the bench; with Ronaldo playing, Portugal “wastes” seventy, eighty minutes before they finally start playing some “serious” football (it happened against Ghana and Uruguay: Portugal’s gameplay dramatically improves when Ronaldo is substituted (and that’s just 10-20 min.)). Yes, they’re qualified (two wins), but what happens when they play against Brazil, Spain, France, Germany or England(?)
