Hashimoto has to answer in the diet where and under what basis that she came up with the medal target numbers that waga Nippon failed woefully to meet.

Dr.Lucifer - that's slightly harsh! There's no shame in finishing in the top 20 of the medal table for the past two games. And Japan has a lot of talented young kids who are poised to strike Gold in the next games, which is virtually in their backyard. Also a big games for another rising star - team GB - their best ever.

I said it several times before the Olympics began, and am looking forward to Hashimoto's "seen no sawagaresu" and excuses.

What is Hashimoto in this Olympoc? Is diet had a special session to inquire about Sochi Olympic??????

toshiko: Hashimoto predicted a 'record haul' including more than five gold medals, painting it to the media as though it were given fact, and subsequently the media saying athletes like Takanashi and Asada were shoe-ins for gold. Now all you have are excuses, and as with Vancouver, Hashimoto is thinking up her apology as to why Japan did not meet the expectations the JOC put on them. Hashimoto, not for the first time, is guilty of putting immense pressure on the athletes and over-the-top expectations in the public, and should step down out of shame. Why could Hashimoto not have just said, "I hope our athletes will do their best" instead of declaring how many medals Japan would get and being proven wrong YET AGAIN?

@smithinjapan: Thank you for info. So, it was Hashimoto's speculation. Is he/she is a member of JOC committee? So this person has a habit of speculation. BTW, I a;ways read your comments. What do I think of contents of your comment? Argumentative and nit picking habit of me, does not have a chance to ridicule you. thank you again.

Have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised with France winning 15 medals... forgive me, but do they always do that well? ...and I would have thought Great Britain would do better.

I don't have a clue what you mean by this. But yes, as to the prior part of your comment, Hashimoto has yet again to apologize for promising a record medal haul and five or more gold medals. Japan got one gold, but she said they would get more, which is my point -- you should simply request the best of your athletes, not demand and expect something for which the outcome is not certain. Hence, the JOC will be apologizing as it does after every Games.

Was trying to figure out how the United States ended up in 4th place after the papers today said the U.S. ended in 2nd place. Then I realized that this table is sorted by Gold Medals rather than Total Medals. We'd have been at the TOP of the table if they had sorted it by Bronze Medals. :-)

"We're #3! We're #3! We're #3!"

Japan's target was 10 medals. They got 8. Not bad.

@Education60: Thank you, now I know who is Hashimoto. She is a councilman from Hokkaido and her name is Ishizaki. She deckined to be in Tokyo Governor candidate because she want to concentrate on Olympic and Paraplegic. She herself specialized on speed skate and track cycling sprinter. Her political activities are way longer than Mori/ Chair of Japan Skating Fpundation. She was encouraging Japanese Olympic team, I;d bet. She is the best person to replace Mori.
