something like this is being aired on prime time radio... disgusting."
Agreed. A girly-man trying to come off as an average bloke.

Women’s football could become the second most watched sporting spectacle after men’s football.
The growth is phenomenal. Some got a bit hissy and upset about this and all parroted a line about a women’s international team being beaten by a men’s youth team.
Negative Nancy
There's no denying that women's football has had a remarkable growth in the last ten years. However, we have to be clear: it is not yet on the same level as the men's game. We have to stop the obsession with the idea that it should be held in the same regard. This so-called comedian said something into a microphone that should be a private comment in a bar, but I'll not pretend its such a terrible, unforgivable thing. It's banter.

"Marty Sheargold was widely criticized after saying on nationwide radio station Triple M he "would rather hammer a nail" through his penis than watch the Matildas at next year's Asian Cup at home."
Ouch that's kind of very painful! But hilarious. It's easier using a drill than hammering a nail through!
kohakuebisu
I wonder how much money you could raise for charity by crowdfunding him to hammer a nail through his penis.
(It's just banter)

Heaven forbid anyone make a public comment that's not in total support of women's sport.
For the record though, I can't sit through a game of men's soccer either.

I just read that this grub has been sacked.
Apparently yesterday he made a comment that "endometriosis is made up by women". Some banter.

Next time just use the old id rather have a root canal

It's the way he did it that's caused the issue
If he'd just said "would rather hammer a nail through his head" then nobody would care

Bloody hell Australia. Is comedy and free speech now officially dead? Sheargold made a joke, not a war crime. Yeah it was a bit off-colour, but if every off-color remark is now "unacceptable," then say goodbye to humor, satire, and anything remotely entertaining.
And Triple M knew fully well Marty had a built a career on dry, often dark humor - and has poked fun at about every demographic of society - and went ahead and hired him anyway. And NOW they feign outrage?

Don't know about Australia, but I'd much rather watch Japan's Nadeshko over the men's national team. Someone give the bloke a hammer and nail; a little humor back at ya.
BorisM
Oddly enough, no! ;-)
BorisM
C'mon, he's a comedian. It's his job to be a little more creative than that.
Mr Kipling
He was just stating what many others are thinking. I have zero interest in women's soccer, rugby and especially boxing. Not because of any latent sexism, just doesn't work for me.
Jimizo
I’d agree with that.
Still, you could argue women’s football is a better product than any other team sport - male or female. The game they are playing is so vastly superior to others.
The numbers could back that idea up given the phenomenal growth in its popularity.
I’m sure only the bitter and catty would get sulky about this success.
Very well done. Keep it going.

No one will be listening to Sheargold.
He's been sacked by the network. His "sincere apologies" didn't save him.
bobcatfish
I also have zero interest in women's sport.
starpunk
Somebody just might take you up on that. Watch what you say, mate.
Some (young) guys might like to watch women's sports because the players ARE women!
Fighto!
You only like watching young men? Each to their own. No judgement.
Many of us will watch sports if they are competitive and played at a high standard - regardless of gender. Some great women's football, volleyball, rugby 7s etc games usually at the Olympics.
lostrune2
Thought that was more creative...................... Hint: he has 2 heads, lol
