So are they going to be like Iwakumi and ask for the highest contract salary of all time despite a not great performance?

What are you talking about? Iwakuma had good second half in 2012. He ended up with 9-5 record and respectable 3.16 ERA. Iwakuma has great stuff. No wonder Mariners signed him for 2 years contract at $14 million ($7 million a year).
