Had to look this guy up.

Reports in Japan say the total contract could be worth 700 million yen, or about $6 million.

He is definitely NOT worth $6M.

I have a feeling that US is forcing unwanted players on Japan like the way they do with their farm produce or weaponry.

@tina--while you may have a point about multi-billion dollar food and weapons exports, I have a hard time believing that anyone in the US government is pulling strings to find gainful employment for a random ball player. In case you were not aware, all major leaguers including Ohtani are presently locked out of employment until a new five year labor agreement is reached. If it cuts into the 2022 season, this Galvis guy will be fortunate collecting a higher salary than the reigning AL MVP.

@tinawatanabe I think TorafusuTorasan has a good point this guy maybe on to something and I wouldn't be surprised if you see other players doing the same if given the opportunity

I didn't think the US government is pulling strings. I have read an article that some American player who once played in Japan explained how he went to Japan. He was asked by his boss if he wanted to play in Japan. He didn't want to go but accepted it if it was only one year or two.

It indicates that US accepts only the best Japanese players from Japan but Japan is not even choosing who to accept.

Who's this "boss"?

MLB players have a powerful union - they don't have to kowtow to MLB bosses if they don't want to

Sounds like this "boss" is most likely the player's agent telling him he'll make more money in Japan than the contracts he's being offered at the moment in the MLB. Play in Japan for more money, then come back and try the MLB again in a couple years
