This was a year to remember and forget.

Obviously written by an American.
All non-American athletes are but a footnote

Considering the date line is New York and it’s AP yes, it’s an American. So what? Americans not allowed to write memorials?

Maradonna was a cheat. Thats how he’ll be remembered.

By whom? I’m English and I remember him as the greatest footballer I’ve ever seen.

Naturally you would.

I’m not a patriotic type. Some English people hate him for the Hand of God incident but I blame the keeper - slow off his line. Some patriotic Englishmen say Bobby Moore or Bobby Charlton were the best but that’s before my time. I did rate Roberto Baggio quite highly but not in the same league as Maradona.
Who do you rate as the best?

He knowingly broke a cardinal rule of the game and kept silent about it so his team could win. No honour. The rest if his life continued to reveal his charracter - or rather, lack of it.
