Big up to Germany on becoming the World Champions! Outstanding achievement.

I didn't follow too closely but it seems the US has fallen off a cliff when it comes to basketball. They had a good run, to be sure.

@Fighto!--the US has won the last four Olympic golds in basketball. Their most hyped players this time around were young rising stars without NBA playoff experience like Anthony Edwards of the mediocre Timberwolves. Team Deutschs top scorer Dennis Schroeder is near the peak of his NBA career and is also an excellent ball handler and defender as displayed in the final last night. Good on the German champs.

Thanks for the laugh.

Without question, the US has and maintains far and away the best talent and depth in the sport. But unlike the Olympics, the US does not send its best players or take FIBA seriously, often times as clubs are less keen on injuries to their superstars just over a month before the start of the regular NBA season.

If you know anything about the sport of basketball or the NBA, and no shame if you don’t, but if you look at the best players in the league at each position, and then look at the FIBA rosters, there is a marked difference.

That respect was earned. Germany came up with a plan to ask its best players for a three-year commitment to the national team, with eyes on this World Cup and the Paris Olympics.

Congrats to Germany - the only undefeated team in the whole tournament! Lots of surprises in this World Cup

At one time after they had their worse World Cup placement, the US asked for the same 3-yr commitment too - and they won the next Olympics and World Cup. More countries should do this process regularly

The US takes the Olympics more seriously than the World Cup. You'll see their best team at next year's Paris Olympics

But the rest of the world has caught up for sure. The US has to send their best team nowadays in order to win. Gone are the days when they can send their 2nd-stringers and steamroll thru the competition
