a fabulous decision for rugby...and another gold for NZ in the bag!

btw - Only the NZ team do a haka - as that is a Maori concept.

Vote was reported as 81-8 in favour of rugby. With that kind of suport it is a wonder it has not happened before. This will be ruby Sevens.A little different from 15s.No lineouts and 3 man scrums.10 minutes each way with unlimited substitution.Drop kicks for conversions. Exciting stuff and non stop all day action for crowds who tend to get into the party atmosphere.Should rock in Rio!In recent years countries such as Fiji,Samoa and Kenya have had success at this version of the game which relies less on size and structure and more on speed and ball handling.Bring it on!

what would you call a Samoan Siva Tau, a Fijian Cibi or a Tongan Kailao? Not a haka but hardly a Maori only concept. How about a Polynesian concept. New Zealand will choke on this like they do on all the other big matches.

Time to start putting more pressure on Ishikawa to ready him for the big break-down! Hope it doesn't happen, but I canNOT see the media NOT doing it after little Ai-chan -- and we all know what's become of her ("SAA!").

Sorry, mate, probably another All-Black choke coming up! I would probably put Fiji in as specials for the Gold medal at this stage, those guys are the masters of 7's Rugby.

...but then again, Fiji may be banned from competing if their current Military Junta government has not been overthrown by 2016.

Why ? Golf has its equivalent in its 4 majors and Rugby has the World Cup.Just another money making grab.

A venue can be created for most Olympic sports.Golf is a little more tricky and it seems that Rio de Janeiro and in fact all Brazil lacks even a half decent course. Another 50 million added to the budget to build a course? They would probably wanted to get going with it to get it bedded in properly

New Zealand has been the world champion at Sevens I think 7 of the last 10 years are the reigning Commonwealth Games Champions. Going on rankings now teams would probably be South Africa, New Zealand, Fiji, Great Britain, Australia, France,, Argentina, Kenya, Fiji,Tonga,Samoa and maybe USA. There will also be woman`s competition which New Zealand would definetely go in as favourites for if they had it now. Quite interesting to watch too.

if nz take it seriously - it won't be a contest.

If you read the article you'll see it's about Rugby SEVENS and this will be replacing the SEVENS world cup. It'll be interesting to see if they seed the groups which will lead to a NZ, Australia, South Africa and GB semis or if they make it a random draw.

Yes...in 1924! So...what are you actually trying to say, stirfry? Care to elaborate? I don't think so.

Rugby ROCKS!

Why not put both forms of rugby in their??? 7's as well as the conventional 15 form. The olympic soccer competition is not a narrowed down version. If they play both styles of Rugby it will give teams twice the chance to qualify as some teams are great at 7's but are crap when it comes to the 15's. As for the golf knockers saying it isn't a sport...get up and give it a go for real instead of sitting back agreeing with the other posts and see how many shots of yours go exactly where you want them to go. Not too many i guess. Technically it is one of the hardest sports to master.
