Many from the white right (not saying I know your colour) are unable to view things from the eyes of a black person and so make statements like this, or call him a "hypocrite" or "virtue signalling" says more about the person saying this than the person that they are attacking.

@Ah_so

Of course, Lewis Hamilton cannot be denied the chance to speak out about any injustice or anything he likes.

However, he should not be taking his bosses to task for not doing so.

That is perhaps hypocritical, no?

Also, political views do allow, no matter, from the right or the left to experience compassion and empathy for others!

It is only in very extreme circumstances that ‘many’ people exhibit aberrative thinking and behavior, in normal circumstances, only the minority do so.

Hamilton's the one profiting from F1, if he's so offended, then let him quit. Hypocrite.

Back to telling black people that they need to protest somewhere we can’t see.

And they wonder why there are angry violent protests. Clueless.

The new trendy left believes that anyone who doesn't constantly agree with their specific beliefs...

JeffLee (and all other reactionaries) - being a black person who had grown up with racism and to see another murdered by a policeman is more than hand-wringing trendy liberalism, but something that makes people angry and upset.

Kind of like slamming bowling, darts, bass fishing, downhill skiing, figure skating or yachting. Hamilton's the one profiting from F1, if he's so offended, then let him quit. Hypocrite.

I was nodding along for the first half of this - after all, I doubt it had occured to most of the drivers that they were expected to make a public statement on the matter.

But then I see the second part of your post - why is he a hypocrite? He is encouraging his fellow drivers to join in. That is not hypocrisy. As lostrune2 above states, sports stars have a role to play in politics.

When there's any atrocity, whether black or white or whatever, anybody should speak up

Think about it - if the sports world didn't speak up against apartheid, do ya think apartheid would had ended as fast as it did? Thank goodness the sports world talked about apartheid (even if apartheid had nothing to do with them), instead of avoiding it like that awkward uncomfortable talk that parents gotta do that's unavoidable but must be done

The initial step is just to acknowledge that there is an issue and not look away from it. Sooner or later like grownups, America has to have its own version of the awkward uncomfortable talk amongst itself. Can't be putting it off forever; otherwise can grow to unwanted consequences

The incident in Minneapolis has very little to do with other countries and nothing to do with F1 racing.

The new trendy left believes that anyone who doesn't constantly agree with their specific beliefs and don't submit to their every demand is automatically a racist.

This is just another cause celebre... next week the media and the celebs will move onto something else to wring their hands over. Mr Floyd's death was horrible, we all agree on that, but to have racing drivers and rappers telling us to feel guilty and whatever... sorry no.

Were I to educate and speak out to my clients on the race issue in Japan -I would most likely be fired!

Oh, come on Lewis, 6 times world champion!

Aren't you happy in the ‘white dominated racing world’ ?

You feel bad ‘standing alone’ taking the million dollar checks?

Sure you do...

Everyone not speaking out?

Pull the other one mate!

Another virtue signalling millionaire hypocrite. F1 is sporting entertainment and should keep out of social issues like all sports should. Shut drive, run, catch, dribble, or ski. We want entertainment not your half baked opinions.

Good on Lewis! One thing: we all need to stand for injustice when we see it, regardless of color, sex, ethnicity, etc but many people are afraid or apathetic and some are just outright loving the injustice. Maybe some of Hamilton's colleagues are in that last category. Would not be surprising in the least.
