Hamilton already holds the record of most knees in a season

Did you see the ad at the beginning - “anti-racism”? Not only is it tiresome to have to sit through even more posturing but it really smacks of cynical flavour of the month manipulation and heads into cringe territory. Much more and I’ll quit my interest in F1.

I think you should. You never comment on the races themselves. The very, very short time taken for the gesture or the ad in this case is completely overwhelming the experience for you.

I’d say it’s time to disappoint the F1 world by quitting watching it on TV.

Cracking end to the race, didn't see that coming at all!

Much more and I’ll quit my interest in F1.

How much more? I'll let Bernie know as we wouldn't want you putting your foot through the TV.

Bernie doesnt own it anymore. Hes been out of the picture for a few years now. Odd that you wouldnt know that.

Odd that you wouldnt know that.

I did know it, I was just being fashionably uninformed.

So, when are you quitting F1?

*I did know it, I was just being fashionably uninformed*.

??

False.

The very, very short time taken for the gesture or the ad in this case is completely overwhelming the experience for you.

When did I say anything about the time it takes? Its fake, cringe worthy and a tiresome example of a behemoth organization jumping on a bandwagon. I get that you like it.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

I’m with you ohara - it’s become tiresome

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Hamiltons Mercedes crew is enormous. No black people on it and that includes his hand picked personal assistant. Hes a hypocrite but as long as he postures and pouts he ticks the requisite ) with you guys) boxes.

You didn’t say anything about the time taken. I did. My point is that this gesture takes such a small amount of time in an overall experience which lasts hours. It isn’t speech time at a Japanese wedding ceremony. Get over it.

I get that you like it

I don’t care either way. I’m a football fan and see players taking the knee before kick off. Virtue signaling for some? Very possibly. I also see some sports with players singing anthems with hands on hearts. Virtue signaling for some? Very possibly. Both are cringeworthy in my eyes but I accept some might have genuine feelings about it.

So, when are you quitting watching it? Are you approaching critical mass?

My point is that this gesture takes such a small amount of time in an overall experience which lasts hours.

A gesture which most of the drivers have been bullied into making. If Hamilton decided to stop it not one of them would argue to keep it going.

And what about other “causes”? If it becomes like Hollywood with every driver having a pet cause to virtue signal with, what then?

Btw, Hamilton has financially enriched himself hugely in F1.

Why doesnt he run his own ads?

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

And what about other “causes”? If it becomes like Hollywood with every driver having a pet cause to virtue signal with, what then?

How do you know it’s not a sincere belief?

Would you object to a driver blessing himself or saluting a flag? Is that virtue signaling or a sincere belief? Hard to tell for me.

I get the sense you don’t object to the principle. You object to a message you personally dislike.

I can put up with things I see as very often virtue signaling ( blessings, anthems, flags ). I get over it and watch the sport. You don’t seem to be able to.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

All this hate. Yeah, racism is gone.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

All this hypocrisy.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

I get the sense you don’t object to the principle. You object to a message you personally dislike.

And again youve got it wrong.

I do object to the principle of drivers having a “cause” - sincere or not - and foistering it on the other drivers and the public.

You havent answered my question: what if every driver ( 18 of them?) wants to display his personal pet “cause” before each race, demanding tv time and an ad by the F1 association?

Good. Let’s get to the principle. I don’t like ideologies being forced on me, including this.

Do you object to national anthems being played and flags being saluted at certain sporting events? Isn’t that being foistered on people? Can’t they do it on individual bases in the changing rooms? You are avoiding answering this. If you are serious about the principle, not personal likes or dislikes, you should deal with this.

Nobody should have the right to ‘demand’. The driver should be allowed to take out an ad if he pays for it and time permits. I agree that nobody should be forced to be made uncomfortable with any ideology - that’s why the anthem/flag point is relevant.

Equal time is important here. If the drivers want to make a gesture at the same time before the race, taking a knee, praying to god, hugging a flag, revealing a t-shirt about animal cruelty, displaying an LGBT rainbow, knock yourselves out. Would you be okay with all of these things? I emphasize ‘all’.

I still get the sense your dislike is based on personal politics rather than the principle.

Again youre wrong.

Oh come on. Viva the Internationalist.

So, you like the anthems and the flags being played and waved. That’s fair enough.

Just post that you don’t like BLM. That’s fair enough. There’s no need to waste time dressing it up.

Have a pleasant afternoon.

Albon was driver of the day for me.

Come now, flag and anthem (and pretty minimal at that) has been part of F1 tradition for its entire history, just like every other international sport. Its always been harmless and non-divisive.

The F1 association, exercising common sense along with the drivers, kept “causes” and divisiveness out of the sport - until now courtesy of Louis Hamilton.

Enjoy your day too.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

I'm with you ohara, it's beyond annoying now and Hamilton is a divisive, hypocritical, phony.

Motor Racing

Not just a 'puncture'.

Was this the first time ever that a three-wheeler crossed the line to win a Grand Prix? Cool-headed genius that Lewis was able to lock the diff and change all the settings under such pressure, to bring it home through the last half lap?

Does anyone not agree that it is pretty incredible that tyres/tires can be designed to last a finite number of laps at a finite speed, and that three of them left front would fail catastrophically in the same way on the same lap?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Three tyre punctures in one race? You cannot be serious. These F1 cars are real shoddy these days. Ive never had one flat in my Corolla and its done 280,000 clicks.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Well done, Hammy!

Interesting to see the black and white flag in use, unsportsmanlike conduct, which I suppose is acceptable language as there are no women F1 drivers.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Fighto, go talk to Pirelli.

They were specifically tasked by the FIA with making tyres that do exactly what it says on the tin, and then drop off the cliff, and that's what they continue to produce. Max's final pit stop showed that his front left was also shredding and on the limit, i.e. just about to burst.

Matt@08:50 am, unsporting conduct, even?
