My sincere felicitations!

Congratulations, Yuzuru! Simply fantastic. Was hoping Daisuke would medal as well. Otsukare!

Sounds like it was pretty amazing, despite the falls. His score was extremely high from the get-go, so it would have taken more, and a perfect performance by Chan, which he didn't have, to have given up the gold. Anyway, congrats, young man, and you have a lot more you can do in the future, too!
Sorry for Chan, but Hanyu had him down. I don't think some of the comparisons to former Canadians who got silver is entirely fair -- it has been made quite clear several times that Orser was cheated, for example, where I don't feel Chan was cheated at all but simply out done.
And good on Den, too, for scooping up a medal for Kazakstan. Going from 9th to 3rd is no simple fete.

Well done! 3 of the 4 Japanese medalists so far have been teenagers - they sure do produce mature, talented youngsters here! And now for the people's favourite - Mao-chan - to nab the next gold...

Good for you Yuzuru San

Didn't watch it but basically it sounds to me that this line summed it all up:
Well done to the three medal winners. And it's good to see someone with a clean skate getting some sort of reward for it.

Finally a male Gold in Figure! Thank you and Omedeto!

Was disappointed in the sloppy performances by the two top medal winners. They got extremely high points for putting on a bad show. I felt that some others did just as well or better (especially the Spanish guy, Fernandez), yet they got poor scores. Again ... I wonder about the quality of the judges. They gave some really high scores in the short program ... scores that were difficult to overcome in the free-skating final. Never seen scores this high before in the opening round.
On a bright note, the guy from the Philippines put on a good show, although he was way off in the standings. I'm never surprised at what the Filipinos can do ... but this warm-weather guy did it on the ice ... a good skating performance by a farmer's son from the Philippines.

Very impressive performance by Hanyu. He can easily be mistaken as a female in the U.S.

@pukey, edojin : You could skate flawlessly but still not win because of the technical points. Jumping a quad gives you way more points than a triple, as does jumping in the second half of the free skate, when skaters are more tired. That's why everyone (except Brown of the US) attempted at least one quad, even though few were able to land it cleanly. Hanyu had a 2 point deduction, yet still managed to win because of how well he skated minus the 2 mistakes and because of the difficulty of his program. Take Brian Joubert's Matrix program from a couple years back. He skated a flawless program but still failed to medal because, as he himself said :" With a program like The Matrix, you have a handicap of ten points from the outset compared to Patrick Chan."

Bad show? Did you see Mr.Hanyu's short program? I did not, but many were astonished. The scores are not only judged by the success of their jump but also how they execute their program in synchronization with the music they have choosen. You can jump, but cannot dance? You fail! That's what happened to Mr.Plushenko in vancouver 2010. Spain and Philippines' programs weren't that much artistic, that's why. Also, there is no need to give Philippines emphaty just because the country doesn't have snow or the climate is different or he was the son of a farmer. The Olympics is open for everyone who is determined, no matter where you live or what your status in life is.

@WellSaid
Hardly. He looks out slightly different than a chubby truck driver in a skirt....

I think Hanyu skated better than Chan, and he deserved the medal. No shame in a silver even though this is now the third time a Canadian was favored and they couldn't win the big one. On a side note, can we now retire Arakawa Shiuzuka! I know she won gold in Turin, but I am really tired of her. Why she was made the "main caster", I can't understand. I really feel she is too critical and thinks she could do better, even though the year she won, the field was extremely weak! Just my two yen!

kickboard:
I understand what you're saying. However, the good thing for Chan is since he wasn't the one who fell all over the place and ended up first (unlike the last Worlds), he won't get booed and there won't be accusations of score inflation directed at him this time.
Yes, I'm sure Arakawa Shizuka and Irina Slutskaya would agree with you!
I hope whoever wins the women's will at least put on a decent show, like Kim's 2010 performances.
Wellsaid:
I don't know about that, but I think he should choose another designer instead of Johnny Weir.

Well done, Yuzuru-san ! Omedetou ! Otsukaresama !

When you consider Japan has only won a total of 9 Gold Medals overall in 19 Winter Olympic meetings.... Hanyu's Gold Medal in a Premier Winter Event is quite substantial.

congratulations!

Lol, Arakawa. The luckiest of all time. She got it made as a commentator because everyone else failed and she played it safe. Even though he is a guy Hanyu's skating is much more beautiful than Arakawa's ever was.
