hes right the lack of talented strikers is the biggest problem for j league.

spot on - but I guess he will now have to resign for stating the bleeding obvious!

Yes shooting the ball a nd scoring a series of goals always makes for enjoyable eatching, but there is an age old saying that it is defence that wins games. The problem with Japan is that we lack the defensive tougness that underpins a world class team. Look at the last wrld cup, we lost to australia as a result of two major blunders in defence in a midfield.

Whilst I would love for Japan to bea ble to win games 4-0, 3-1 etc, I would hate for us to lose a game 5-3 or 4-3. Gladly settle for a 2-1 win if it means that we can secure 3 points against the top teams in the world!

Yeah, they should change the J-league to a more exciting sport.

What a crappy thing to say. Sure not scoring goals is a problem, and perhaps more children should be trained to shoot more. I think it is related to the group mentality of Japan, feeling they have to pass the ball around so everyone has a touch before shooting. Maybe they need to teach a little more about individuality I guess. But to say the J-League is boring because of this is going a bit far. There are plenty of exciting games, and good players. That's like saying the 1982 Italian national team was boring because of their defensive play. Remember the 1982 World Cup? In the first round Italy tied every game. Second round they won two games scoring 5 goals and allowing 3. It wasn't until the last two games that really shined, the first beating the high-scoring Polish team, 2-0, and then the Germans 3-1. J-League will never be on the level of Serie A, or the Premier League, but it is enjoyable to watch.

J stands for junk and it is.There is little to enjoy unless you are from a non footballing nation or have low expectations in watching games. Football will always be a low level here.

I watched my son's team play a team from Australia last Thursday night. They beat them 9-0. Lots of goals, lots of skill. They practice 6 days a week (Japan Youth). But I always tell them when they lose a game 1-0, like in hockey, you can't score if you don't shoot.

Thats the first thing I noticed when I first watched J-League years ago. Nobody was taking the shot!

I wish there was Rugby League in Japan.

football is a team game which simultaneously requires individual flair and improvisation. japan excels at the former, fails miserably at the latter. seems in a way that football might be a great way to teach a happy balance between the two....

Been saying this for years, and glad a Japanese with a bit of clout is FINALLY saying it too. People might stop and think about it for a minute instead of simply dismissing it as foreign criticism and 'unnecessary' while they are trying to claw their way up in the same foreign soccer world.

Now, my prayers is that they DO take this seriously and start shooting.... any idea that you have to have everyone touch the ball and pass it around is going to result in yet ANOTHER humiliating loss in the first round of WC.

Hang in there, Japan, and buff up!

it's actually worse than watching italian soccer. playmaking, creative/deceptive dribbling and subtle passing are sorely lacking in the j-league. why is high school football so much more fun to watch in japan? hmm ....

J League football is dire. The players are poor and lack motivation and aggression.

I suggest all J league players and wannabees watch Fox sports channels(Avaialable on TVU) tonight and watch Crystal Palace USA Vs Crystal Palace to watch some true motivation and work rayte , especially from Crystal Palace.

Japanese players can't make it in England, which with the Premier and Championship have the 2 fastest, aggresive and skillfull leagues in the world. Chinese and Koreans have done well, why not Japanese?

Great call Mr Warnock. Japanese soccer is poor, very very poor.

Maybe they need to teach a little more about individuality I guess

the half of a J league game I saw was all individual which is why it was so boring and we left at half time.

Individually they have fantastic skills but as a team they (generally) suck - looking at the national side that is

Neil Warnock,

Hahaha. gotta love this! The Championship is better than La Liga?

J-League is poor enough, though if you are a fan of an actual team that ceases to be as important as if you are just a fan of football. Players who can't shoot from 30 yards trying to shoot from 30 yards won't solve much though.

I don't think someone called Neil Warnock can tell people how to play good, exciting fottball. But I think a "Neil Warnock" style route 1, kick-'em-up-the-arse football is what the J-league is lacking.
