Just when you thought FIFA couldn't go any lower...

You couldn't make it up. What will Infantino decide to be this time? A woman in Saudi Arabia? Time to replace FIFA with another global football body.

16 ( +18 / -2 )

as a woman in Saudi Arabia, you can't even have a job without the permission of your male guardian

The idea that this country should be allowed to sponsor a women’s World Cup should not be entertained for a second.

FIFA does live in a different moral universe though.

Progress has to start somewhere

Let them progress at their own pace.

When they reach civilised status, come and join us.

Until then, sorry.

No. Hard no.

You treat women like property. There is scant difference between the Saudi treatment of women and the Taliban's with the recent ability to drive and education being the key differences.

The Saudis don't get to treat half of your population like objects and then get to sportwash it.

Or at least they shouldn't.

international women players could boycott the tournament to show solidarity with their Saudi sisters, thus rendering the sponsorship moot. they have the power!

$$$$ talk and ethics walk.

Everyone knows Infantino is essentially a Mafia figure and runs FIFA according to the amount of cash he can get.

Soccer has become a rotten cesspit on the level of The IOC. Hopefully - ASAP - a credible rival organisation emerges that signs up democratic nations and tears FIFA as we know it apart.

FIFA is corrupt and beyond the pale.

True, but look at the Bach and IOC. They aren't any better. It seems that its SOP for all these organizations to be morally corrupt. Is anyone really surprised? I'm not.

Well NZ and OZ can want all they want. Saudis are free to sponsor what they wish.

NZ and Australia could complain all they want but in the end, what's more important for FIFA is...

$$$$$$

Corrupted to the core.

FIFA need to be completely dismantled and disbanded and a new, Internationally organised and scrutinized body set up to take its place.

It's just too rotten to the core - built on foundations of abject corruption that merely encourages the likes of Saudi Arabia and Qatar to dig deep and fork out to get what they want.

Football doesn't need FIFA at all. They aren't clean - it's just a club for men on the take.

Saudis are free to sponsor what they wish.

no, they are free to offer to sponsor what they wish. Then it’s up to the event / organiser whether they will accept the offer or not.

NZ and Australia are the tournament hosts - they have a say on what goes on their lands

Same as Dubai, right?

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said he expects two billion viewers to tune into the ninth edition of the Women's World Cup.

Well you can -1 from that list I won't be watching if Saudi Arabia with it's poor record on women's rights is sponsoring it.

Well actually they could pull out of hosting of the event and then I guess we would see how quickly FIFA changes its mind.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Football is all about the dough these days, they don’t have the high morals of the IOC and Mr Bach.

Anything goes as long as It makes money for a select few, sad, immature and regressive.

Saudi Arabia is sexually/socially backward. They treat females like trash. Having a Women's World Cup Soccer tournament there is a hypocritical and obscene idea.

I remember when during the mid 80s the UN imposed a full cultural/economic/etc. boycott on South Africa because of their apartheid. Apartheid finally ended there on May 10, 1994. Now everybody in South Africa is a free citizen, incl. the previously classified non-citizen 'Bantus' (Black Africans).

It's not much different with Saudi Arabia. They think that females are just 'baby-carriers' and 'homebodies' and that's it. They need to wake up and smell the coffee, it's 2023. We need to hold, impose, enforce a total boycott on Saudi Arabia until they mentally modernize and change their tune.

FTR, the Quran states that women are to be treated equally and with respect. I don't see that happening in Saudi Arabia. Things are hypocritical to the max in that nation. And the same goes to you too, Iran!

This is all about The $$$$$$$$$$

FIFA, THE OLYMPICS, CRICKET are all corrupt from the top, down. As Japan is now finding out!

Zenji

Incorrect. The Olympics are run for the benefit of mankind, not for profits. I’ve heard that from Mr Bach’s mouth personally
