Ichiro is proving time and again (WBC Final, now the Grand Slam on his return from DL) that he is a class act. Hopefully all those critics will give up now.

Isn' Harimoto actually Korean (or at least of Korean heritage)? I hate to bring this point up, but for a country in which any discussion regarding baseball invariably starts "Ware ware Nihonjin,.....," perhaps some accuracy is required.

Then again, nationality has always been an on-again off again thing here in Japan. Japan's greatest home-run hitter is I believe a Taiwanese national, while the country's greatest sumo star was part Russian. Just out of interest, when Harimoto was breaking all these records back in the day, was he doing it as a full-blown member of the teams on which he played, or was he just a foreign helper.

With regard to criticism of Ichiro, with the Mariners so hot, such arguments have gone cold. If the Mariners end up down the standings, however, the rumors will start again.

timorborder: why don't you google his name? It's quite funny that some foreigners here want to know if a person is Zainichi or not when the Japanese makes no distinction. If it's the opposite, there'd be huge outcry.

Oh was born in Japan and holds a Taiwanese passport through his Chinese father. Oh's mother is Japanese.

Taiho was born in Japanese-owned Sakhalin to a Japanese mother and a Ukrainian father. Taiho was raised in Hokkaido and grew up there.

3085 career NPB hits, 1959 Rookie of the Year, NPB MVP 1962, 18 x All-Star selection, 8 x Batting Titles - doesn't sound like a foreign helper to me.

Ichiro can't be the true Japanese leader because he got more than half of his hits in the majors.

^ you're kidding right?

Without question Ichiro is one of the most consistent players to ever play pro ball. If he stays healthy and continues to do what he does best he`ll definately be a Hall of Famer.
