Congrats to Ichiro! A definite first ballot Hall-of-Famer and class act.

Class act all the way. First ballot Hall of Famer. Congratulations Ichiro!

Er, pro baseball is not played year-round.

This should be bigger headlines! I don't even like baseball but this guy is amazing!
Only 30 people out of 18,000 MLB players have hit more than 3,000. First Japanese player in the MLB to ever accomplish this.

Way to go Ichiro! Congrats.

Us Seattleites haven't forgotten our Ichiro--love and congratulations!!

Ichiro ! Ichiro ! Ichiro ! Way to go !

No, those are all Major League hits fair and square and a tremendous accomplishment.
Amongst those who got at least 3K hits, Ichiro is the lattermost when getting his first MLB hit (he was already 27 years old when he started), the 2nd oldest at the time of the 3000th hit (the only one older did it at age 45 in the year 1897, not even last century), and just the 6th MLB player to have at least 3000 hits and 500 stolen bases while maintaining a batting average above .310 (but the first one to play after 1930). So a player of once in a several generations.

Where have you been ?, he beat that number about 2 months ago and he is the undisputed (forgot disputed by Pete Ross) hit champ of the World.

Awesome Ichiro! Another milestone passed! First vote HOF baby!

"honest hits"
I don't understand. How can there be dishonest hits?

****Omedeto gozaimasu Ichiro !!! I became a baseball fan when you came to Seattle to play for the Mariners in 2001 and remember cheering loudly (in the bleachers at Safeco Field) for you every time you went to bat & ended up with laryngitis many times when I was still living in Seattle.
Although I don't watch TV anymore, I have kept track of you over the internet.
ichiro, you set such such a good example for everyone. You've achieved so much by working hard and being diligent everyday. Unlike so many athletes, you never resorted to steroids or human growth hormones to achieve all that you have.
Persistence paid off !!! You can count me in (along with all the others) in saying you DESERVE to be in the Hall of Fame on the very FIRST BALLOT!!!

Nope, Pete Rose could argue as much as he wants, but MLB umpires don't change their calls without valid evidence (like if other refs saw something that the ump didn't). They're more likely to throw the player out than ever change their calls.
Nobody questions Pete Rose's hits - it's the gambling part that they question

I was expecting a bigger congrats for such a record, either way well done. Only 1256 more to go to beat the number 1.
lostrune2
Not at the top league though - numbers don't all carry the same weight (like Sadaharu Oh's 868 HRs don't carry the same weight as Hank Aaron's 755) or somebody's numbers in the Korean league don't carry the same weight as those in the Japanese NPB (or in another sport, Josef Bican's 805 futbol goals don't carry the same weight as, say, Pele's 767 or Gerd Muller's 735 goals).
stickman1760
its Pete Rose by the way, and he still holds the record for the most hits in MLB. but congrats to Ichiro. 3,000 hits is incredible in any league.

Great job, Ichiro!! Congratulations!!! Now, please tell these TV stations that the Marlins probably have the least amount of fans of any baseball team in the U.S. and to show some other teams' games now.

Does the 3000 include his hits from Japan ball?
toshiko
Last time I watched 3000 hits was many years ago Roc Cares of Anaheim Angels. There is 3000 Club to honor them.
dmacleod
You mean Rod Carew?
toshiko
Haven't you ever watched Pete Rose argued at home plate. after he was struck out? Until umpires agreed to reverse last strike call, Pete argued and he got one more hitting chance to hit to center field. That was how he collected hits. Ichiro never behaved like Pete. No one behaved like Pete did. His action is known as Pete Rose's home plate argument,
BurakuminDes
Well done Ichiro! Even as a non-baseball fan (cricket is my thing) I can appreciate this incredible achievement!
toshiko
Yes, and Ichiro will be hall of farmer. Unlike Pete, his hits were honest hits. Pete was gambling on his tram that after he did not hit, he did lengthy argument against umpires. In Dodgers game, we used to buy hot dog and ice cream when Pete began his home plate argument.
some14some
collecting 10 hits per month for 25 years? neither impressive nor interesting but well, everybody has his own goal and perspective.
