A splendid example to all older citizens, and doesn't Japan have the oldest woman to climb Everest? And a long history of good marathon runners too. They seem to excel at endurance events, I suspect because of their neat, efficient physiques and generally good diets. I see the importance of physique for endurance in cross-country skiing events, another sport in which they're quite competitive, though there the longer European physique can often perform a bit better.
