Bach has consistently shown he will shill and tout ANY circumstance in order to continue to collect his paycheck.

IOC lacks all credibility, and any ability to determine if Peng is truly free or not.

I would not believe the statement from Bach.

Allow Peng Shuai and her family to leave China. That would be more impressive and believable.

Maybe she doesn't want to leave. China is no longer as poverty-stricken as your typical American city. It's taken much better care of all its people than US and Australia has taken care of its native people - an absolute disgrace. She can travel freely on the best high speed rail, whereas she'd have to avoid crumbling bridges like USA. Lots of people, especially middle-aged men, seem obsessed with her.

“It’s a necessity to respect her,” Bach said, “to listen to her and how she sees the situation, how she wants to live her life.”

Might be the first time Bach has said anything I have agreed with. I suppose stopped clocks are right sometimes afterall.

I do hope the poor woman can get some privacy sometime soon, as soon as the media finds some other soundbite to grab onto. Since people can answer the question with "right over there" now, I can't imagine it will last much longer.

And how many "minders" will be sitting at the next table?

"Peng Shuai can move freely in China"

No-one can move freely in China.

Does anyone believe a single world that ever comes out of crooked Bach's mouth? Bach is, like the entire Olympic movement he leads, corrupt, and driven purely by the wishes of his top paymaster - the Chinese Communist Party.

Where is Peng Shuai?

And who appointed Bach as the spokesperson? Xi?

@Mat

No-one can move freely in China.

Every time I have visited China, I have had no issues moving around quite freely. It's pretty easy to get around too thanks to the rail systems, and even customs was pretty quick and easy compared to some other places I have been to.

Right now it may be harder because there's a pandemic going on, but that is true universally as well.

If I was dying from dehydration and Bach was selling water at the lowest price, I wouldn't trust it and pay more from someone else.

Like we would take his word for it (or anything else). Credibility long gone!

What an evil little man this person is. He does not care if she is dead or alive, just as long as he gets his cash from Mr China.

This is a good time for Chinese to overthrow their government, while the world is watching ,could make some exciting TV,the Olympics if I watch will be in Spanish, do not have a English language broadcast

Pukey2,lots of these conservatives do not care about this woman, they are same racist, that believe China, manufactured Covid in a lab, I welcome you to America and all it privileged, you can enjoy as a foreigner

She's a member of the WTA - so why not let the WTA meet her

And where's the investigation? Why is there no transparent investigation happening?

She made a serious claim - let's investigate that

China is no longer as poverty-stricken as your typical American city.

Oh please, ya only see the cities. Check out interior China, which makes up most China - it's still 3rd-world. There's a reason millions of Chinese every year leave interior China and move to the cities (they even leave their children to their aging grandparents) - because there's nothing for them in interior China

Unlikely, the government is supremely popular with the people as a whole. The CPC enjoys a lot of widespread support. Contrary to what many people think, local party officials are elected by the people directly, it's not top-down.

It's not hard to see why either, with the massive growth China has enjoyed in the past couple decades. Nearly eliminating poverty, guaranteeing medical care for every eldery citizen, free education. All this in one of the world's most populous countries. It is an incredible feat.

Even when the CIA tried to instigate some coups, they didn't really catch on because there wasn't enough backing for them. It's really hard to usurp a popular regime.

Some people are going to be unhappy of course, likely the capitalists who are slowly but surely being pushed out, but the proletariat have really only benefited. Unlike many oligarchies around the world, the capitalists in China don't have the power and influence to control the government.

Of course, western media outlets will say only numbers that portray China in a negative light count, everything else must be made up.
