My vote is cancel them. The only ones allowed to be at the Games are the elite, politicians and pretty much the talent with a very limited "other" ordinary fan base for show and tell only. Think about it just during the recent emergency due to covid it has been the same group enjoying themselves pretty much like free reign of the town.

Postpone it until 2024 then restart the olympic cycle from there , if you continue to press forward with this ridiculous agenda you are showing too much ignorance, stupidity and belligerence .

Everyone ignores them, I try to stay 2 metres from the person in front of me I the supermarket queue, but almost always get some idiot tutting and pushing their trolley right up behind me or pushing in front as they thought the space I left was for them.

So the IOC basically admitted they don't care about spectators, or local people, because they only want to sell the TV rights. Yeah, very good playbook. They also will not care much about what happens to the athletes and other persons involved after the Games have finished. Enough, just burry this farce already. Japan hasn't even started to vaccinate their citizens!

The virus is not spreading due to sporting events. It is spreading via bars and other social events where people are face to face for long periods of time.

U.S. football had fans this past year. People will be fine with limited attendance, masks, etc.

Throw in vaccines for many in attendance and negative tests for everyone else and the risks should be lowered greatly compared to where we are now.

Sounds good, except for the fact that almost everyone who catches it has no idea how or where they caught it, including people who don't go to restaurants, bars or events of any kind.

And I find it amazing that the idiots at the IOC seem to NOT realize that there will be 10s of thousands of locals(foreigners as well) that will be part of the games if they proceed!!!

One word missing from this entire discussion: "volunteers"

One year ago, Tokyo began to realise that their generally excellent transportation system could not handle the Olympic logistics. Then, as one of the volunteers, on which the entire event depended, I started training, and after that I was offered a position as, basically, an unpaid taxi driver. They even asked me if I had my own car. I thought about the risks of an accident versus the rewards (zero), and declined.

This year they have not even asked the volunteers to schedule the training yet. Would I accept the added risk of infection? Sorry, I was really excited about the Olympics and Paralympics 2020, but in 2021 I would prefer just to stay alive.

A major unanswered questions involves fans. How many fans will be allowed into venues? Will fans from abroad be permitted?

.... or would fans even come? Think about it. In most countries (and most airlines) require you get tested first which means subjecting yourself to having a cotton swab jabbed up your nose to where it touches your brain (joy!) then spending lots of $$$ for the flight (for us it's a good 12-14 hour plane ride - fun!), then when you get there the entire country closes by 8p and you'll be treated to only seeing less than 10% of countries competing - if that many at all. Sounds like the ideal Summer Vacation! Sign me Expedia!

Oh, and good luck with enforcing foreigners to wear a mask the entire time! Have fun with that...

Seriously, I can't believe the IOC is still thinking that a 2021 Summer Olympic is going to happen! I think a better use of the venue would be to use it to help administer the vaccine. It's very spacious, outdoors, and can hold a lot of people comfortably rather than trying to jam them into clinics and hospitals. In an earlier article, they were looking for 10,000(?) Medical people for the Olympics? I say recruit these Medical people an repurpose them to assist with the vaccination. That to me would be a much better plan and use of their time.
