Not King Felix, sorry, the Seattle pitcher yesterday was Erasmo Ramirez. Similar physique had me fooled.

Yeah, I like to see fierce sports competition as much as the next guy, but to trot out yesteryear's greats like Felix Hernandez, whose own MLB team the Mariners has relegated him off the list of starting pitchers, makes this tourney lame. Sure King Felix is a 'name' player, but he is not a good or great player anymore by any objective measure.

Sumo does regional exhibition tours in their free time too, but its just a limited hardcore fan base following what happened because the results don't affect the official rankings. This is pretty close to that.

@runner3--take your pick of WBC or Olympics to determine the world's best team. Didn't USA win the last WBC? This exhibition series is more an exercise in showcasing Japanese talent for possible MLB recruitment. The MLB side is mostly middling or aging players with a sprinkling of four actual All Stars thrown in so as not to have people claiming false advertising. The host stadiums will sell about 250,000 tickets for the series, or more if you include the win by Chinese Taipei and MLB beating the Yomiuri Giants, because of the relative rarity of this kind of tour. So I'd argue its main importance is as a funding source for NPB operations.

And they keep saying the winner of the MLB are the "world" champion's!
