I hope they do not post any pictures of them crying. I watched them over the weekend. Pretty skilled at mopping.

This match was supposed to be "must win" as they were tied at 4th. Too bad the stone didn't curl their way.

Japan shoulda used a tawashi type of brush to clean the ice for the rock....stone...whatever it is...

Big difference between real quality and jmedia hyped quality

That comment hits the nail right on the head. Japan, unlike other countries, does not have the player skills to back up some of the outlandish claims that are made in the media.

Yeah, They have how many medals...3? Wasn't there a goal of 10 medals? I watched a short montage of Japanese athletes mostly falling down and crying today, set to depressing music.

Why are the Japanese teams underperforming/being disqualified? Are they buckling under the pressure?

Seems they've fallen apart. I am sure we will see them crying. Some TV channel actually had a segway of how the losers crying on yesterday. Pathetic to say the least.

Wow, what a time to get blown out. Sure the four points were bad, but it seemed to me that the Swiss were in control for the entire game.

Poor Meguro, she looked devastated after giving up that 4. :(

I didn't see todays match but I saw yesterdays vs Gremany. As usual the atheletes here won't take chances. They play the 'don't lose' strategy instead of play to win.

Another "sure thing" medal for Japan about to bite the dust. Over achieved last time around, making them think they were good.

Why do they call the middle of the game the "end"?

Yeah, They have how many medals...3? Wasn't there a goal of 10 medals?

Yup. Many countries are finding out that they are not going to meet their expected goal of medals. Russia's goal was 40 medals overall, and it won't meet that. Canada had a lofty goal itself of 30 medals. They even had an "Own the Podium" program to promote this goal.

http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/news;_ylt=AgIOCikEPpsVp33LbA60FKc5nYcB?slug=dw-canadapodium022210&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

"The Canadian Olympic team stepped out and spent big, talked bigger, and dreamed biggest. Its members said they were going to win the Games, defeat the world, and Own the Podium."

Yeah, right.

Wow. Do any of you realize what Japan's ranking is in curling? It's no surprise if they were at the bottom of the group. Instead, they're right in the middle. GO TEAM GO!

The Japanese women's curling team is doing great considering they are considered non-contenders. Did any of you nattering nabobs of negativity watch them come from behind and steal a win from Russia? Have any of you even watched curling before last week?

Sheeesh!

Ah, yes. And I do believe have done much better at past Olympics than they are doing now. Hence the expectations.

okapake - This isn't only directed at you, as there are MANY others making the same claim, but show me an article or clip where the Japanese media has GUARANTEED a medal. I watch quite a bit of TV, and I read quite a bit as well, but I have never seen a guarantee of any sort. They may call some of their athletes "medal hopefuls" which is commonplace in other countries as well, but no guarantees. I really question the Japanese proficiency of a lot of the people making these claims on JT, as I think there is a lot being lost in translation that is putting a negative slant on your views. I'm not trying to put anyone down if you don't understand a lot of Japanese, I'm just saying that if you're gonna mock something, you should be sure that your claims are correct.

Anyways, these girls have impressed me. They've shown that they're capable of playing with some of the best, like narrowly losing to Canada, but you could see from the beginning of this game that they were all a little off.

Kreza23: I'm not saying you're wrong, but what is the breakdown of the 10 medals promised by the 'chef' and Japanese media? Were the curlers included or not? Just asking.

Like you, I am impressed by them. I WILL say I'm also upset at the media for making them out to be so much more than they are, because I think they did a much better job and gave a better performance than they should have against some of the countries they played, but that is all 'swept away' by the aforementioned media's exaggeration.

I will say that it's nice the Japanese people are becoming more interested in curling, and I hope that these young women continue to play and grow in the sport, and encourage others to do likewise so that it becomes more competitive in Asia as well.

smithinjapan: I don't know about you, but a prediction of 10 medals as a goal by Japan is quite modest if you ask me. Did you know that Canada (the host country) had several predictions? One of which was 30 medals. Far from their current 10. Some media outlets in Canada even predicted that Canada would win 12 gold, eight silver, and 11 bronze! 41 medals?! WOW! Way off!

http://www.kelowna.com/2010/02/10/canwests-olympic-medal-predictions/

They even had an "Own the Podium" campaign where they proclaimed that they would "Own the world"! Yeah, right.

Then there are the Russian media who proclaimed that they would top the medals table. HA!

Give the U.S. credit for at least meeting their prediction of 25 overall medals.

I also see now that the Korean media has already proclaimed Kim YuNa as the gold medal winner! Well, she is the favorite, but they haven't skated yet!

They should kick out the Canadian fans who refused to show good sportmanship and made a bunch of noise to unnerve the Danish skip enough to make her lose her concentration and even make her cry. ( the Japanese aren't the only ones who cry )

I heard about that too, Sarge. Those loud Canadians. I guess they are trying desperately to "help" their athletes get any medal they can to meet their 30-40 medal prediction. To me, curling is a sport like tennis or golf. They should have PA announcements like they have in those sports announcing to the fans to quiet down before a stone is thrown. It's the gentlemanly thing to do.

I always knew Canadians had a sinister streak. Nobody's that nice and not repressing something.

Yeah, way off. 12+8+11=31

Yes, let's kick out the fans who paid GOOD money to watch an Olympic event. Curlers have never experienced a crowd like this before and most of the veteran teams are loving every minute of it. David Murdoch mentioned that and I agree, they should do whatever they damn well please.

Don't just put blame on Canadian fans, fans from other countries have been loud as well.

AWWW, Japan just got eliminated :(

About medal projections. Sports Illustrated projected Canada 2nd over the States in the medal standings. They're getting lots of top 5 finishes, but not in the top 3... where it matters.

And the Russians want FORTY medals in Sochi 2014. Unreal.
