Yeah - as i said on another post - in the enlightened world of 21c sports, head injuries are put to a concussion evaluation that will take time. Obviously he would have failed any real sports doctors analysis. (he fell 5 times in performance). Also he had a sprained ankle. Did they miss that one??? Good checking!

Ehh... no. It was Hanyu's decision, not Orser's to make. Doctors medically cleared him to skate. This wasn't an uninformed coach deciding he should go back out and skate - it was the skater himself. In fact the article makes of point of the coach telling him there's no need to be a hero about it. HANYU decided to skate anyway and captured the Silver medal.

What sort of medical training do these "former Olympians" have to state that "he could have died"? Even trained medical doctors won't make such an irresponsible statement if they haven't personally examined the patient. Could he have died? Sure! We ALL can die at any minute for any reason. Some former sports athlete making a medical diagnosis over the internet has about as much validity as a 300 yen coin.

I sincerely hope that this was written with as much sarcasm that can be had in a forum such as this, however if you were being sincere, you really need to have a long discussion with people who participate in sports and are familiar with problems associated with head injuries. He fell 5 times in his routine, which says to me, that he wasn't in his right mind, and his coaches and the skating federation should either be heavily fined or fired for putting him at risk.

You guess it! It was irony. His coach told Mr. Hanyu, "no time to be a hero" but he went in the rink without hesitation, turning himself into some kind of a warrior. I'd say a Kamikazee warrior (suicidal one). He's an Olympic champion and the reigning world champ. It's not a worth gambling your life for something you've already gained. It was a little greed and selfishness in his part. Hope he recovers soon.

I sincerely hope the officials responsible are punished. How stupid and selfish these officials are never ceases to amaze me. Hanyu should never have been allowed to skate again. Wait for the typical vile, insincere and meaningless apologies tomorrow.

The Mrs & I were talking about all this, it was certainly VERY risky behavior going ahead with his skate after that collision, heads need to roll, people need to be fired, canned, kicked outta dodge.

He should have been resting in hospital under 24hr care, cat scans & all that, he got his noodle HAMMERED good, watching him fall all over the ice during his routine......hopefully now he is getting the rest & attention he needs & that nothing happens, the brain is a delicate piece of organ!

I mean he received the equivalent of a sucker punch from Mohamed Ali! He should have been in bed!

He should not have been allowed to skate. Same goes for Yu Han. Those young men could have very seriously injured. They should have been put in a hospital, not the rink.
