"I think we showed the gap between a team that will be at the World Cup and one that won't."

Slightly arrogant from the manager.

Hopefully when you go out in the group stage in Qatar, the manager of Spain or Germany will say that they 'showed the ga....

No, they would never be so unprofessional

"Everyone worked hard and created chances. It's disappointing that we conceded, but we didn't give much away at the back and we scored goals," said the manager.

Not just arrogant, but a bit silly too. The reason why Paraguay isn’t going to the World Cup is because they always face stronger competition in South America. The Japanese players and this coach need to be humble and learn that Japan is light years away of reaching the level of European teams and Brazil. In other words, they’re mediocre, same as Paraguay. Beating them 4-1 in a friendly match doesn’t change that.

Paraguay was 8th out of 10 south American teams so not very good , and they fielded a junior squad. Brazil sends its teams around the world to earn money like the Harlem Globetrotters. Don't be surprised if they don't go full out, and let Japan off easy. Probably get a bonus payment for that as well

no way in hell Japan will even be close to Brazil. They won't even need to get out of 2nd gear to beat Japan.

Fighto!Today

The aim, of course, is to go as deep as possible in Qatar. Aim for a Semi-final place and see what happens from there!

more likely they will be pummuled by Germany Spain and Costa Rica to finish bottom of the group yet again

Didn't Japan beat Brazil in 1996 Olympics?

made up of mostly amateur players

Under the brilliant tactics of world class gaffer Moriyasu, Samurai-Blue have every chance of shocking the world and beating the Samba Boys of Brazil. All Qatar squad spots are up for grabs, and the most hungry of Japan's boys in blue will get there.

Oh dear

Hoping for an entertaining game, the odds are overwhelmingly against Japan even with the lack of pressure of being a friendly game, but in soccer huge surprises are possible.

Under 23s, and my memory says there was a howler by the Brazlian goalie for the single goal.

I'm going to tune in to this friendly and am looking forward to the game. Brazil have brought a very strong squad, and are good all over the pitch now. It's not just incredible flair players and a very soft center, as in the days of Zico etc. Or when Germany beat them 7-1 not so long ago under big Phil but with some of the worst defending you will ever see. They were just walking it in. There's a great photo for the other day of Neymar, Richarlison, Bruno G, Paqueta etc. all riding a roller coaster at South Korea Disneyland. Gabriel Jesus sounds like he is set to leave Man City due to Haaland, but he's finally started emerging from Aguero's (immense) shadow and really looked a player in the PL run-in.

I tried but there's no one dumb enough around me to take my bet.

Olympics is not considered a "senior" international.

@Fighto!

Best of luck to your Aussie boys in their WC qualifier.

Going to be a tough one.

Don't see the point in gearing up for the World Cup. It's going to be handed to Ukraine. Many Scots were actually happy to see their team lose the other day. Sad.

Fine win for the Asian Giants. Hajime Moriyasu's Samurai Blue will be tested on all fronts by Seleçao Canarinho. All the best to Japan footballers and fans.

Sensational result - with the Samurai-Blue "B team" no less!
