Otsukaresama desu. Most medals in the Winter Olympics and plenty of figure skaters for years to come. Let’s get a bobsled going, if Jamaica can field a team so can Japan.

GO JAPAN !!..

But I don't understand. Shouldn't they be going to quarantine?

Is curling defined as a sport? It looks like a fun game. But a sport?

Too bad Japanese sports federations have cancelled almost all international sports events in Japan for the foreseeable future out of an irrational fear of Covid.

Congratulations to all Japanese athletes, coaches and officials for another job well done!

Best to all of them going forward, a solid base has been built with hopefully even more high level success down the road. In Milan or Paris, or wherever after them.

"Men's snowboard halfpipe gold medalist Ayumu Hirano said he will take a brief break to evaluate his current plan and set goals for the future."

[translation] He said that he will rest on his laurels as long as possible, and will be flogging consumer products on Japan terrestrial TV far into the indefinite future as long as sponsor cash continues to flow...

China did the best olympics ever. Pandemic time and political snobbery. Good luck Paris! It will be hard to beat.

China did the best olympics ever.

Yep, they sure did. Eileen Gu was the icing on the cake. Cry ab it.

Japan; 100 million+ folks, mountains everywhere, big winter sports and ice skating culture, and yet 3 golden medals and rank #12 is its best performance ever... ?

Meh

Was writing of the same sentiment as mixed.

Exactly. This team has been coddled and live a life of being catered to 24/7. Incredibly poor showing.

@Michael, if they can make break dancing a sport, they can make anything a sport.

No 6 in the world in total number of medals (18), topped by memorable performances by numerous others who just happened to fail to finish in the top3, everyone displaying beautiful sportsmanship, is not bad at all. Well done Team Japan. You can be proud regardless of whatever groundless criticism.

Congratulations to all the Japanese Olympians !

吉田知那美 I love you ;)

I wonder if they had to go through the 15 different pieces of paper, spend three hours in the airport, take an expensive COVID test before departing, then another upon arrival and still do a week's quarantine while constantly being monitored and harassed about health and whereabouts like I had to do? Doubt it. Probably went straight home to drink with friends and celebrate. When I came through the international terminal at Haneda a few days ago, the only people allowed close were the ones waiting to take you to the quarantine hotel, and even they had to at least pretend to practice social distancing. Such (typical) hypocrisy here.
