Cheat suits

Go back to the original Greek Olympics where competitors were naked or near as damn it. Should boost viewing figurs as well (maybe not the female shot put though ;-) )

nude would be good...and I agree, maybe the female shot put could be done at night...in the dark..

Mizuno and the other J-suppliers were shown to be what many companies here are -- great copiers and slight tweekers -- but not real innovators. That is why the J-swimmers will wear Speedos, and listen to iPods between heats. And many Japanese will watch the swimmers on Korean flat-screens.

There is an old saying about what is the difference between an old bucket of cow manure, and a new bucket of cow manure. The answer, of course, is the bucket. Kitajima aside, if Japan thinks that wearing these new swimsuits will catapult it to the first rank of swimming superpowers, then I would suggest that both the Japanese Olympic Committee and members of the Japanese swimming team be tested for mind-altering drugs.

Go Speedo Racer, Go Speedo Racer, Go Speedo Racer, Go.

I was in believe and very strong minded believer, that Japanese athletes for Olympic games are more honest towards their sporting ambition and equipments! Now that they will wear this magic 'SPEEDO,' all of them will be the winners. How about drug testing? Is that working well or it will be legal for usage. Now that 'Speedo and Drugs' are in power, who will be the real winner? Looser will be the one that wouldn't use the right 'SPEEDO AND DRUGS.' As far as I'm concerned, 'THIS IS NOT OLYMPIC GAMES BUT MONEY MONOPOLY MACHINE OF THE NEAR ENDING WORLD.'

BBLeo, relax. It's not the end of the world. By the way it's loser not looser.

I like Kitajima's attitude. He keeps pointing out to the press and the public that it's the SWIMMERS not the SWIMSUITS that are making these records. Unfortunately, this time the wearers of the suits seem to be getting some kind of advantage.

I think that if the suits are really giving an advantage to the wearer, perhaps they should be banned like the Spaghetti Racket in tennis. If not, then everyone would have to use the racket, or swimsuit, in order to be competitive.

Maybe DeepAir65 has the right idea...

three Japanese sportswear makers, including Mizuno, introduced new versions of high-tech swimsuits intended to compete with Speedo’s suit for Beijing.

Are any of these any good?

I'm so used to hearing superfluous vowels at the end of foreign loan words in Japanese that I thought the people on the news were saying "speed" instead of "Speedo". "LZR racer" also sounds suspiciously close to "leather racer", which would be a pretty amusing swimsuit, I imagine.

these suits have propellers in them to set these records. It 's not the suits, it's the swimmers. jeeeezzzzz...

Mate! They need all the help they can get to keep up with the Aussies in the pool. Let'em wear them. It's gonna make bugger all difference to the results.

What are the Aussies wearing?

"( Speedo LZR Racer ) Should not be allowed"

What! And slow everyone down? Agree it's a proven advantage. If all the swimmers in a particular competition want a fair contest, they should all wear the same suit. Or no suit!

"same as performance-enhancing drugs"

That's a stretch. How about same as eating your Wheaties?

I don't know about the Aussie women, but the Aussie Men are reportedly going to wear the latest generation Speedo swimsuit, this is the one that was developed after the LZR Racer. It is called the "Speedo Weaner Sheath."

Anyone else think this story's been wildly overplayed?

One of my j-friends says yes, another says no.
