Good....now lets just hope the media don't put the weight of the world on his shoulders and start with their non stop everyday coverage of him training and playing in the lead up.......but i doubt it!!!

Prepare for media frenzy and inevitable heartbreak as he misses a cut with all the pressure put on him.

do not forget the pink pants.

From an international perspective he sucks! Japan is dying to have a golfer who can compete overseas and because he's young and good looking the companies want him to hawk their products, but mark my words he will NEVER finish in the top 10 of a major.

The 17-year-old Ishikawa shot a final round 73 to secure a place at the July 16-19 British Open at Turnberry...
Which probably means that he's now busier choosing which outfits he's going to wear in the open than he is practicing...

I don't watch golf and I don't watch Japanese TV, but I was at the local gym yesterday and I had to watch TV during that boring thread mill time. And this guy was all over the news, for annoyingly lengthy periods. At the beginning I thought he beat Tiger Woods or somethings, then I just found that he's 17, cute, dresses in pink and won some qualifier

let's hope he can finish in the top ten at the ZenEi O-pun!

Good on the pink-clad lad.

Fame and money is not worthy if in the end you die poor like Michael Jackson. I hope this young man is wise about what to do with his money.

I don't think I've met a golfer who hasn't ever shot a 9 on a Par 4...

Stirfry, two things you don't have in common with Ishikawa:
And you've never qualified for The Open

I feel sorry for this poor kid -- he's going to fall harder than Ai-chan does in table tennis, although he seems less certain to blow a gasket as a result (mentally, that is). The media in Japan, as usual, is placing far too much pressure on the athlete by putting too much false importance in him. I believe the kid has a chance to become good (he's not at all in world ranking) if he can mingle with his own (pro-golfers), get some advice, and work on his game, but the J-media won't allow it.
As such, and as all except Heda_Madness have said, the kid's going to buckle and go down in flames. Of course, THAT part won't be reported in the J-media... you'll just stop hearing about him, unless it's how much the Japanese hate him for failing to boost their lack of confidence.
Hang in there, Ishikawa! Try to ignore the J-media. I'd say tell them to F-off, but of course there's the sponsorship contracts and all that.

considering how many people in japan play golf, and considering how rich this country is, the fact that it doesn't have an international level golfer is a bit odd. mind you, the same could be said for most sports, with the possible exception of volleyball and syncronised swimming. once more it's only the girls that are worth making a fuss about!

all they want him for is to sell merchandise to the japanese
