If you employ a dud, you get dud results.
Japantime
Rugby has been popular in Japan for a long time. Companies even sponsor teams with big money. Most foreign players come to play in the competition at some point in their career because of the quality of the competition. They can’t get that in their own countries where Rugby is a minor sport.
Fighto!
Sadly, true.
Rugby is not the major sport in most countries where it is played, including Japan where baseball and football are the major ones. Rugby is the major sport in NZ and Wales - I don't know of any more.

They come to Japan for the money which they can’t get in their own countries. Let’s be honest. It is not for the competition

Fighto, It depend where in Japan. The same as in UK, Union and league dominated in a certain areas of the country also Criket. The same in Japan .If you travel over Japan you notice Union dominates Iwate where the world best ever baseball player came from Hanamaki. Tennis and scocer dominates the cities Baseball is a constant everywhere. Surfing and skate boarding dominate Shizuoka. Japan dominates the world in Surfing , indoor climbing, Skateboarding, Judo, Snowboarding, Baseball and Kinnin Cycling.

Everybody knows baseball is the No.1 sport in Japan in every preference. It’s not even close. Soccer is a distant second then everything else comes after that.

Jones has always been a busted flush.
The only reason foreign players come to Japan for rugby is the same for soccer players in Saudi Arabia. Moolah

The extended residency rule that means non Japanese players have to wait 5 years before being eligible to play for "the Brave Blossoms" is going to hurt. But means some deserving young Japanese players will get the chance to play for their country.

So you believe Warren Gatland is a dud? Examine his coaching record.
Really? The most successful coach England has ever had?
How anyone thinks that any coach can turnaround a weak team in a few months is bizarre. It's a four year or longer program that involves all levels of domestic rugby.
Borthwick still has a way to go with England to get them to the level of France, AB's and SB's
Schmidt has a mountain to climb with Australia (but he will get there over next few years), and Jones/Rennie before him couldn't get it done, but that was mainly RA's total and utter incompetence; both class coaches if given the time & resources
Jones plus Japan Rugby needs 4 years at least to bring Japan closer to the the top 5 in the world. If they can elevate themselves to top 10 ranking then it will be a success.
Must be same in France, then. €€€ only.
