Why was this in a Manhattan court and not an Atlanta court? I'm not an expert on venue and jurisdiction, but I thought plaintiffs could sue anywhere the defendant has operations. As MLB has operations in Atlanta, the plaintiffs should have been able to sue in a more friendly jurisdiction. Did these hick rubes from Georgia think an Obama-appointed judge like Judge Carponi would rule in their favor?

Contracts have the jurisdiction specified as part of the contract. All disagreements in the contract would need to be filed in a court in that jurisdiction.
First, the ballpark in Georgia where this event was to be held isn't in Atlanta. It isn't in Fulton County. It is in Cobb county. I think the city there is Smyrna. It is right on the edge of Smyrna and Marietta. I used to live in Smyrna.
The GOP passed a nasty law and this is just 1 high-profile group showing they are unhappy about it. Lots of businesses will not relocate to Georgia over this law. When existing businesses need to expand, they will choose other locations. The stubborn GOP will be costing the state $millions+ in tax revenue for what will turn out to be unimportant law changes with no real result. People in Georgia will figure out how to vote within the new law and the GOP will lose more and more seats in the state house and senate. It might take 20+ yrs, but eventually, as the Republicans become more and more nasty towards the people they are supposed to serve, those seats will be gone.
I just hope that the Dems will put up for Governor someone with both experience and values that Georgians can support.
My county school board has become extremely political. The majority are white, republicans. The minority are democrats, some black. A vote held earlier this week had all the democrats abstaining as the majority republicans forced changes to how teachers are allowed to speak about the War of Northern Aggression and roles for minorities in that war.

Is that actually what some people call it?
