Japan has to start feeding players abroad if they are ever going to compete at an "A" level in union. Not just one or two players but a heap. Just like they have done in baseball and soccer the experience that the players gain while overseas playing week in week out against top opposition can only make their national side better in the future...worth a try. Too often Japan whips the minnows like Taiwan by a good 60 points and automatically they think they can take on the world. More games against power houses will benefit....that is week to week.

That's assuming they are good enough of course. Which they aren't yet. Perhaps they could play in the lower leagues of the European/Southern Hemisphere Leagues but all that is likely to teach them is how to get flattened.

I think they can start by cutting the JHS rugby training sessions from 4 hours a day down to 2 and forgetting rugby in June July and August!

Thanks JT. Ratpack: good point, but the way things are, all the under 20 players are still at uni. As to sending players abroad for experience, well they can earn more money playing here in Japan. The expanded super 15 should have a team in Melbourne and I would love to see a team comprising South Pacific, Aussie and Japanese players. The extra interest and revenue provided might just be encouragement enough for the elite( and there are a handful) Japanese players to get the experience you speak of. Heda: There are a few players who could land contracts if given enough money. John Kirwin could give you 5 or 6 names of players that would hold their own in the higher levels of pro rugby.

Takashi Kikutahi, Jack Tarrant and Koji Taira touched down for Japan in a sustained second half assault while Ryan Nicholas converted all three tries.

Jack and Ryan sound like real typical Japanese names.

Peace Man. I completely agree.

Your right with the training times.....why on earth do they have to go through that marathon of passing the ball back and forth up and down the field shouting out hai hai hai hai hai everytime someone touches the ball. Perhaps the coaches could do the teams they are coaching some real justice and watch quality sides train including the wallabies and the all blacks and notice how they also do the basics but with a totally different purpose and certainly not for hours on end. The most successful rugby "league" coaches are the ones who have taken the initiative and flown to the states to learn from another codes training methods before returning and incorporating things into their routine. The Japanese coaches here are too concerned with their players putting in the big hours (quantity) and making big noises without actually doing quality sessions at training. I know John Kirwan has tried to implement things into his training but the problem is that when they finish their rep duties they head back to their respective company teams and fall back into the boring routine.

Get 'em playing younger here, that will help. Also, good job of holding up against NZ, but don't forget, that was not the National team of NZ. The score would have been a very different story then, even with them out of form as they seem to be now. VAliant attempt, but allowing 51 points to be scored against your team is not too outstanding, even if it could have easily been double that. Japan needs to send more players to Aussie and NZ, maybe even SAF, if they want them to develop. Hell, send the coaches over too. Oh wait, someones gonna have to learn english... Staying in Japan and doing things the Japan way is the long road to catch up to the stronger rugby nations.
