In a bid to distract South Korean civilians from politics, he then eased tight controls on popular culture in what would become known as the "3s policy" of promoting sports, sex and screen.

Very canny of him. He just modernized the Roman "bread and circuses" and the modern culture of distraction.

Korea's taking on of pop culture showcases the weaknesses of "Cool Japan".

I doubt all those men there filming are actually really there to watch baseball. I bet they really do bring positive energy. If you know what i mean.

@Hiro

I doubt all those men there filming

Actually they can't. It's a crime to photograph someone without that person's permission in Korea. We are not talking about upskirt shots or anything like that, just taking photo of someone standing can get you thrown in prison. Say you are at the beach and there is this hot bikini babe, you casually take her photo with your phone and suddenly you find cops behind you grabbing you by your arms.

Many foreigners not aware of this law fell victim to legal prosecution.

So why does Korea have such crazy laws favoring women? Because Korea is the land of feminists, complete with women's ministry enforcing feminist rules.

This is why angry men in their 20s and 30s voted en-mass for Yoon, based on his pledge of abolishing women's ministry, roll back women-friendly feminist policies, etc and beat out the liberal candidate by the margin of 0.7%.

Not sure that cheerleading and feminism are famous for being that compatible...

They are cheerdancers, not cheerleaders. Cheerleading is a hard and skillful sports that requires much training and professional like lifestyle, has rules, complicated performances with securing spotters etc and therefore completely differs from those dancing teams at the sidelines of sports matches or anywhere else. They are also nice skilled and sometimes even professional, but by far no real cheerleaders.

Unlike J-pop bands, they can actually dance.

I don't watch sports for the cheerleaders but a bit of young eye candy always gets me pumped up!

Sounds like the baseball players are big fans of the cheerleaders. I can see why.

There are no cheerleaders in Major League Baseball in the United States

I am no baseball fan but I am curious to know the reason behind this. Then I Google and find many pictures of MLB cheerleaders. The authors need to do a better job.

Video links anywhere? Asking for a friend.

I think the players are calling balls and strikes I wonder how many women got hit by hard foul balls!

Seems like fun and games until you learn about K-pop's relationship with gapjil and sexual favors.
